Wellesley Chance Me!

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could chance me for Wellesley College? I am currently a junior by the way! I would be applying ED.

High School GPA UW: 3.75 (School does not provide weighted GPA or rank) - I had really bad freshman year grades that pulled my GPA down, but I have a legitimate reason why they were bad
My school does not offer AP/IB/Honors except for honors math (which I have taken every year), and my schedule is one of the most challenging offered because I take all of my major classes and 2 language courses

ACT: 32

SAT Subject Tests:
750 Bio E
700 Math 2
Taking AP exams at end of this year

EC:
JV Squash for 3 years - (school does not have varsity) and have two school awards for squash
JV Volleyball for 3 years - have one school award for volleyball
Model UN Conference 2016 - had to stop for financial reasons
70 hours of community service
3 internships at Hopkins (both in labs and at the Bloomberg School of Public Health)
I speak 4 languages (including English) - and tutor two of them to kids
Head of the Mental Health Awareness club at my school - I planned a huge Mental Health Awareness week for my school where we had a lot of speakers and will become an annual thing
I write for the Odyssey and another online magazine - and I will be interning at a local magazine over the summer
Studied piano at Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory for 10 years
Debate Club for 1 year - I have won a couple awards at the debate tournaments

Also…
I am applying for NIH program this summer and will be working at another lab at Hopkins. I do not have any family members who attended Wellesley but a good family friend did. And minority wise: I am not a racial minority but I am apart of a very small religion and my parents were asylees.

What do my chances look like for ED? Is there anything specific I could do to bring them up? In general, I really love Wellesley and I would be planning on doing pre-med.

Thanks!

You have a strong profile and interesting background. For Wellesley, JHU, and any other schools, make sure to edit yourself. One year of MUN and debate doesn’t say anything helpful; depth not breadth. Hopefully your GC explains the 9th grade GPA. Interview either on campus or with an alum and be prepared.

Thanks! My freshman year bad GPA was because my parents had a bad divorce. That is great advice about the ECs, do you think there is anything I can do this year to help show the depth of who I am? Would it be helpful to volunteer at a hospital or add another medical internship? I want to show my focus on languages, and I am actually going to do an internship this summer in Paris because I speak fluent French.

I don’t think you necessarily need to add anything to give your ECs depth, but if you have time and can keep up a perfect GPA this semester and into senior year, go ahead. Some might advise retaking standardized testing in the hopes of higher scores to deflect from the GPA- I’m neutral on that too. Wellesley’s application offers many chances to talk about your ECs/interests/goals. Spend time perfecting your essay responses. Good luck!
