Chance me, please?

Hello! I'm a junior at a relatively small high school in CT, and I'm just wondering what my chances are at Wellesley. I recently visited Wellesley, and I'm just in love with everything about it. It's a serious reach school for me, I think, but I'd just like some input from people who've been accepted/gone through the admissions process at Wellesley.

Anyway:

GPA: 3.9
Rank: 8/272
SAT I: 1960 (590 M, 670 CR, 700 W) - First shot taking it/no prep. Will be retaking in October after buying a book. Made some really dumb mistakes on the Math, especially.
SAT II: 700 Bio, 710 Literature
AP: US History score pending, I have a good feeling about it.
Senior course load: AP Physics, AP Biology, AP English, AP Psychology, Honors Pre-Calc
Awards: St. Michael's College Book Award, First Honors all semesters, NHS, Achievement in AP US History, Achievement in Drawing

ECs: Varsity Tennis (manager), NHS, Spanish Honor Society, EMS Explorer Post, Big Brother/Big Sister, HOSA, EMT Certification, did a 60-hour internship in the oncology department at the hospital, FBLA, HOSA

Community Service: over 100 hours with EMS, mentor for elementary school kids, will begin riding on ambulance next year, will be volunteering with Operation Hope over the summer

Other:
Ethnicity: White
Family Income: <$100,000
Would like to be an oncologist

So, what do you think? Do I have a shot?

I would say for the most part you have a good shot, but I would definitely try to get your SAT’s up. My d had a 2090 and she was waitlisted(with similar stats otherwise). Also if you really think Wells is for you, I would go with Early Decision, which seems to have a higher admissions rate. Good luck!

Bossf51: Thanks! I think I’m going to go with ED, but I still have to consider it a bit. I mean, is the chance really that much greater if you apply ED? I was under the impression that there’s a pool of extremely competitive applicants, so for someone like me it’d actually be more difficult… wouldn’t it?

I’m retaking the SATs in October, and my goal is 2100 with loads of prep.

ED is kind of a “crap shoot.” I wouldn’t apply ED unless W is your absolute top choice. That said, I still think you would have a good chance making it ED, especially if you get your SAT’s up to that 2100 range. Good luck!

I think you are definitely a good candidate. As Bossf51 had suggested, pull your SATs up higher but don’t stress on it too much. I was ED and my SAT score was only 2050. I think the most important part of the application is to show Wellesley who you are as a learner and what you aspire to do. They want to see passion. So this will basically make your essays the MOST crucial factor when you apply.

Don’t worry about wether or not you are as competitive as others in the ED round, if you TRULY think Wellesley is the place for you and your stats are good, I encourage you to apply. If you are not sure and would like to use the first semester grade plus the November or December SAT scores to help boost your stats, then EE is an option, too.

Good luck! If you have any specific questions about ED, feel free to message me, I was in your position last year so I get what you mean ;)
