If my chances aren’t good, is there anything else I can do to improve them. I’m also retaking the ACT

Your chances are very good, but you’re not an automatic admit. You have great class rank, GPA, and interesting EC’s, taking a demanding course level. You clearly like to push yourself, and you do well, which is a common trait among accepted Wellesley applicants.

You are also smart enough to understand that Wellesley is harder to get into than ever, with more than 4 out of 5 applicants getting rejected. Your test scores are below the average but not terribly below, so retaking them is a good idea. If you don’t improve your test scores, I think you still may have a good shot.

What part of the country are you from? Do you think your ethnic background helps or hurts your chances? Have other students from your HS gotten into Wellesley?

I’m from Texas, but I’m white and both my parents went to college. The only other person I know that went to Wellesley is my sister in law

I got in with much lower SAT scores but similar extracurriculars, similar class rank, and a strong GPA (thanks to a lot of AP weighted points. Make sure to request an interview where you can really let your personality shine and work on your essays – write something genuine (they want to know how YOU view the world around you) and Wellesley will see what else you can bring to the admissions table. Best of luck!

Thanks! This makes me feel a little better

I second the suggestion to make sure you write good essays. My impression is that the admissions office places a lot of emphasis on whether or not a candidate is a good “fit” for the school, and essays play a big role in determining that. If you like Wellesley, you should definitely apply to other women’s college and small liberal arts schools, since they’ll also be a good fit for you.
