WELLESLEY COLLEGE CHANCES PLEASE

Hi guys!

So I’m a senior right now at a very competitive public school, which is in the top 5 of my state.

I’m applying ED to Wellesley College, and I’m not sure how I stand. I also plan on applying to Northeastern, Georgia Tech, UMich, and MCPHS all early action. Any comments on that too would be appreciated.

GPA: 3.49 UW, 3.96 Weighted. I’m in the top 50% of my grade.

ACTs: 30 superscored, took them in September and feeling good so hopefully that’ll become a 32. Except they won’t post my score yet and I want to punch a wall :))

SAT IIs: 660 US History. Taking Math II and Bio in November

ECs
Latin Club VP and been a member for 4 yrs. Held a state office on state wide latin club
Youth cultural organization member for 7 years, been vice chair for the last 3 yrs.
Played varsity basketball for 2 yrs
Playing club basketball since freshman year consistently
Speech and Debate Team, treasurer
National Latin Honor Society

Work Experience: I work ~20hrs a week.
Community Service: ~1050 hours total in high school <—my pride and joy on my application LOL

Sorry I can’t be more specific with my ECs, it’s for privacy reasons. I filled up all 10 of my activities on the commonapp though. I’ve been doing all my ECs for at least 2 years, many of them all 4.

I’ve taken all honors and APs in highschool

AP Scores:
Euro- 4
Bio- 3
US History - 5
Art - 3
Environmental (self study)- 3

Currently taking 5 APs as a senior.

I have 5 academic awards, many on the National Latin Exam. I’m an AP Scholar w Honor.

I’m a white, Middle Eastern female interested in a Biology/Neuroscience major.

I think your unweighted GPA is a liability. I like that you work 20 hours per week and it sounds like you have great ECs but I think Wellesley is not realistic unless you really nail the interview and write incredible essays

Im afraid your GPA, class rank and even your ACT are all rather low for Wellesley. Your ACT is close (their mean is 31), so perhaps you can get there on your next ACT. But your GPA and class rank is more difficult to change. Their admission is holistic, so its worth a shot, but don’t count on it. Make sure you have realistic back ups.

Good luck!

My school doesn’t actually rank us, which is great. It’s so competitive that the difference between the top 1 and top 20% is 0.03 of a point, so our school doesn’t rank because it’s so unfair. Yeah I know my ACT is average, but they still haven’t sent my September one so who knows, it might increase.

Also, my school doesn’t send our unweighted GPA, only the weighted. Colleges can obviously re-calculate, but we do not submit unweighted. THanks for the help!

Also I’m applying to BC, Northeastern, Georgia Tech, and UMich so I’m hoping for the best on those haha

Unless there is rampant grade inflation at your school, I find it impossible to believe that the gpa spread of the top 20% is .03 of a point.

Most schools will send weighted GPA. But they will also send the grades for each subject, thereby enabling each college to recalculate your unweighted GPA. That is the only thing you need to compute. Forget about your weighted GPA. Unfortunately, even that is on the low side in your case. Thankfully your school does not rank, otherwise being in the top 50% is really not good news. Hopefully, you get a really high SAT to offset your low GPA. And because your application is evaluated in a “holistic” manner, you should still apply if this is your clear first choice even if you are slightly below average, numbers-wise, for the typical students they admit.

@Falcon1 I kid you not it’s true. The valedictorian has a 4.8 and I believe #19 has a 4.75 or so. So yeah, give or take, that’s roughly the situation. My school is EXTREMELY competitive (if that gpa thing isn’t a good indication idk what is). We are ranked amongst the top in my state, so I’m hoping that helps my case.

Grade wise I know I’m pretty average, and so I’m hoping my essay and extracurriculars really sets me a part. thanks for all the help guys!

Wow! That is crazy competitive. Hope you get into your top choices!

i say it’s a low-reach but maybe ed will help you; all others are matches i’d say  i wish you best of luck and chance me back please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1816884-chance-me-pls.html

Oh ok, thanks everybody! I’m hoping my “Why Wellesley” supplement is strong and i have a good interview!

ACT scores came in and I got a 31. It’s a 32 superscored though. How does this help my chances?

Wellesley doesn’t superscore the ACT, so they’ll only see the 31. Good improvement, though! Did you end up getting in? Results were just posted yesterday
