Does anybody know how difficult auditions are for Wellesley's Dance Team? What do they make you do at auditions? Also, are they a competition team or do they just do performances?

I was wondering that too!

There are a few dance orgs, but none are a dance team, per se. (Not as far as I know, at least.) You can find contact information for most of the student organizations through the Wellesley website: homepage-->students (hover over the title)-->student organizations-->and choose how you want them listed.

Many of the websites have very useful information on them. Unfortunately, the orgmail addresses are very prone to spam and not used particularly often. I wouldn't recommend relying on them if you're desperate to talk to a student.

Even if you can't find out before the school year starts, you'll see announcements and notices for org auditions in plenty of time to figure out what you'll need to prepare. In some cases, you don't need to prepare anything at all.

I have the same question about competition in dance and theater. At my high school I've had to compete with a girl who was on broadway in elementry school and I've never even had a voice lesson, so I haven't gotten any big parts. Today my admissions person called me to ask if I had any questions I asked her this exact question. She said she didn't know and that the best way to find out was to get a student contact. I recently talked with one student from my area who didn't know either, but she may get back to me with contact info for her friend who is involved in dance. If i get and specific info I'll post it here.

If you are going to Spring Open Campus, there is going to be an activities fair with a good chunk of the Wellesley Student Orgs attending. I would be shocked if Upstage (theatre) or any of the a capella groups didn't show.
I was a middle of the road preformer in my high school and I didn't make any of the Upstage productions I tried out for. I did make a theater class show first year, and had a lot of fun with that (I got to play a guy and strangle someone with a phone cord). It's all just as well: while I miss theater, I've gotten involved in other groups where I get to be a star (or observe them- okay sorry bad bad pun).

Shameless Plug: Bring money to Spring Open Campus to support Wellesley's student orgs for the fair. They generally sell tee shirts and other merchandise that is cheaper than the bookstore's stuff (never more than $15) and are funnier than the "women on top", "women's college without boys" and "on the eighth day she created Wellesley" shirts that have been sitting in the bookstore for years.

As for the audition-competition for dance, there are groups that don't require any prior experience. Yanvalou doesn't (Haitian/Brazilian dance--they're incredible), and the ballroom dancing group also doesn't (they give lessons). You might have to branch out into different areas, but you'll most likely be able to find something that you enjoy and that you can start in without a whole lot of experience.

WendyMouse is right--the orgs tend to have really great t-shirts. (I believe the choir still has two designs with extra shirts waiting to be sold.)

What about the Wellesley Dancers? I looked at their site and judging by their pictures, I think they just perform. But the stuff they do (pointe, other extensions of jazz) seems pretty advanced. Anybody know about the difficulty of auditions?
