Wellesley Economics

I'm thinking about majoring in economics at Wellesley. I know that this is a pretty popular major. I'm interested in learning about the job prospects an economics degree at Wellesley brings. What types of job opportunities are there and typically how well do Wellesley graduates do?

The Economics Department has a spring 2013 newsletter. If you go to the end, there is a section about departmental alumnae and what they are doing:

http://www.wellesley.edu/sites/default/files/assets/departments/economics/files/newsletter2013.pdf

You can do almost anything with an econ major. I have friends who continued in academia and are in PhD programs (in econ, sociology, psychology, etc from an econ major). Others went on to jobs in the government, UN, various political offices. Consulting and banking are of course, two very popular paths, and lately I’ve seen a lot of people interested in marketing, market research, and advertising.

The CWS (center for work and service) has all sorts of data on where we go, what we do, and what we get paid. Once you’re on campus you can drop-in their office to help you with your resume, figure out what companies / industries you’d like to look at for your internship, and prepare you for interviews. They are a really great resource for you in your job search or graduate school endeavours, even after you graduate!
