Wellesley Fall 2010 Transfer

Any girls going to apply for the fall semester? Compared to other LACs, I think Wellesley is pretty transfer friendly (unless you're a guy, then the transfer rate is 0 haha). Here are my stats:

Applying for soph transfer
GPA:4.0, MHC program at cuny
HS GPA: 95.9 UW
Credits, including in progress: 78 (half are ap credits)
ECs: president of 2 service clubs, teach sex ed in nyc high schools, lab research (bio chem and social psych--will coauthor about 4 papers total --3 social, 1 biochem--by May,but not first author), work at a health clinic, editor of college paper and lit magazine, hospital volunteering, and a lot of other important stuff i cant remember at this hour haha
Major: Psych (will try to see if i can tack a biochem emphasis to psych at wellesley, my research deals with both fields)
points of interest: can speak/write in german, arabic, spanish, and italian (none are my nonenglish native languages), sung with my hs chorus at lincoln center and carnegie hall (unfortunately my college choir isn't as good, they take everyone)
Reasons for transferring: psych program at my school isn't really what i want, not very good help with finding internships, i like wellesley's campus (very pretty!), the academic environment is much more nurturing and girls' colleges as a whole seem pretty tight-knit to me (also very nice)

SATs: 2380 SAT I/1600 CR/M; 2370 SAT II-790 Chem/780 Bio/800 Math IIC
ACT: 35, but wont submit (SATs look better)
Awards: USABO semifinalist in hs, AIME qualifier in hs,scholastic writing honorable mention, national ap scholar, national merit finalist, 2 fullride extra scholarships in college, deans list, service awards (~700 hrs community service since jan. 2008), psych and math honor societies
Courses taken this semester: bio 102, orgo chem 2, calc 4, abstract algebra 1 (will probably drop, too much stress)

So....my chances? Objectively speaking, I think I'm competitive but a little too wellrounded--I heard Wellesley prefers students who are really outstanding in just 1 field, like music, art, lit, etc.

Pots your chances and any questions/comments as well! Good luck everyone!

P.S. I think Wellesley should change their website design, its kind of...meh

I was wondering why you are transferring from MHC. My daughter is a high school senior and has applied to MHC at Queens in addition to applying to some Ivy’s. She has been unable to get first hand info about the program especially about Queens, but thought you could perhaps shed some info about Macaulay to help her in her decision making process. Any info is appreciated. Thank you

And I might add, she is particularly interested in music and science.

MHC admits students of Ivy caliber, but the program itself cannot holistically match up to the college experience of the ivies. The only reason that I am attending MHC is that it is free, and as an international student, i can save money by earning 2 years of credit here and then transferring to a private/public school. most of the upper level classes taken (in my case) are taken with regular cuny students. some mhc students (first semester college students like myself) have already transferred out for the spring. however, your daughter’s personal preferences should be the main deciding force in where she decides to attend. my experience has been that mhc tends to enroll smart students from poor to decent high schools. I am at a manhattan cuny, so i can’t say much about the queens mhc. good luck to your daughter in her college decisions, i know second semester senior year was extremely stressful for me, because i had few college options and little advice on how to get off waitlists.

IMHO, the mhc program is more of a marketing ploy to get better students into the cuny system in order to have a trickle-down effect throughout the university system.

PS: I don’t want to be nitpicky, but you could have just PMed me your questions about mhc. this is a thread intended for gathering wellesley transfer applicants after all.

I transferred to Wellesley. Your stats are strong. I think you have a good of a chance as any one if you write strong essays.

Have you had your interview?

A heads up: The “politically correct term” at Wellesley is a women’s college, not a girl’s school. (Yeah, it got me too).

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

holy simoleons a 2380. you would be a shoe into harvard.

lol you just made me consider not applying to biology and society, your stats are amazing. good enough to make me seriously doubt my app…

uhh, i retook bio,math2c and satI last semester. studied really hard all summer. my previous stats were 2230 SATI, 650SATII math, 700 bio, 790 chem. had to change them, ya know?

also i was not shoe in for harvard, i was WLed and then denied. today i’m going to the bank to attempt to cosign a 50,000 dollar loan because i will get no fin aid even though my family’s efc is 0 (int. student), and many schools want a bank statement saying that i have enough money to finance full pay to a prive college/university. i don’t know if i can because i won’t get my greencard for another 6 months-2 years and my parents are already in debt (not so good credit). so if i don’t have this money, it could jeopardize my chances for schools like cornell, jhu, and possibly Wellesley. it wouldn’t matter if i had utterly perfect stats without the loans because then i would have no means of paying the tuition, dorm, etc. so i’m keeping my fingers crossed.

how come life is always throwing me fastballs?

and castiel, do appy to CALS! if you want to do B+S, then go for it! represent me if i don’t get in!

haha thanks melonbread, Yeah cornell was my dream school for years and i applied there early decision in high school so I am definetely going to apply, but wow a 2380, seriously very few people get that. you should apply to harvard this year im serious.

I see your story. taking out that many loans must be hard, but you seem to be very motivated, and in my opinion would deserve to go anywhere. I really want to see you get your loans so you can go to the college you want!

let me know if you got your loan signed, good luck!!!

btw your stats and ec’s and focus are incredibly strong, the strongest i have ever seen in any of these forums.

i love this thread. so supportive, and drama-free! good luck to u both ;)

thank you!

haha thank you! will you be applying to wellesley Castiel? I thought you were a guy!

haha no I will not be, I am most certainly a guy. I thought jamapelle was saying gl to me lol.

anyways I shall try not to hog your forum and let it go back to Wellesley. But how did your loans go? by the looks of it, everything seemed to have gone swell!

i’m applying for a loan from chase and i have a cosigner, so all things seem well! just have to wait for the spring app to come out in a month.

spring app? i thought your applying as an incoming first semester sophomore?

spring app for a loan haha, if they get approved then i can get my loan by may

im applying for the fall transfer. Decision is supposed to be emailed on Apr 16…but i havent received any info from them so far…im just wondering, any one got heard from Wellesley…?

decisions are emailed? because i got my acceptance in the mail today
