I have narrowed my final choices down to two, but I find it impossible to choose between them! I received almost identical financial aid packages from the schools. The obvious differences are location (suburb vs. small town) and Wellesley is all women. I've been agonizing, but I don't have a clear preference at this point, and I will eventually have to make very difficult decision. I will regret having to turn one down; they are both great schools.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Ironically, I think you will find Wellesley a more diverse (even though it is a women's school) and diversifying experience than Middlebury (I did graduate school there). And there are some strong arguments for women with an interest in science/engineering benefitting from the women's college experience in terms of mentorships in the long run. Just an intuitive offering; good luck with your good choices

Both, of course are wonderful schools. When my son was considering his Middlebury option he spoke with his aunt who had attended. She asked him to think about himself as a Junior or Senior, as well as a freshman...for her, at least- it had been a better match for her first few years of school than as she matured. She was the typical Middie in terms of socio-economic profile- and eventually the homogeneity did it in- in her mind.

That said, it is a breathtaking campus(Wellesley is not too shabby) and the kids we met were down to earth, smart and fun loving! The academics are thoughtfully conceived, the sporting options unsurpassed.

Figure out all the significant variables to you, put them on a spread sheet, add up the numbers, and then...go with your gut. One place will just feel right- they are quite different...
