Wellesley RD Admission Thread

@sakacar: I’m a current junior poli sci major in a somewhat of a pre-law track. Academically, Wellesley is fantastic in both poli sci and economics ( the poli sci departments produced both Hillary Clinton and Madeline Albright!). There are many professors in both departments. The faculty advisor for law school isn’t great, but it isn’t necessary to work with her (I’m not).

Grade deflation is somewhat of a con, but it is not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

One potential con (depending on your daughter’s personalities, desires from her college experience, etc.) is that Wellesley is a socially unique place. Obviously there are not any men, and she will most likely meet fewer in college than her friends at co-ed schools. Someone certainly has to try harder to meet men. Additionally, Wellesley is fairly competitive, more so than some other liberal arts colleges (from what I understand). I know that many people don’t like this intensity.

Somewhat irrelevant question: have you all received a letter from a current student?

Nothing here yet, but I live in Greece

Can you elaborate a bit more on the competitive nature of Wellesley as you have experienced it? My D was initially really excited about Wellesley but now is considering Grinnell because she is worried about this issue

Theres another recent thread on that topic that I think you’ll find really helpful. Honestly most girls are competitive with themselves and not with each other. We can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do the best we can.

To my mind unless a family is actually wealthy, there is no way one elite women’s college is worth $80k over another.

My D preferred (and attended) Barnard over Smith and Wellesley. I would not have allowed her to make this decision if it cost $80K.
