I applied to FSU by the October 19 deadline for a December 19 admission decision. Okay. I missed the essay by one day. I called FSU admissions and they said it wasn't required so I could just attach it afterwards if I couldn't access the application (on the 20th). Okay. So that night I submitted my essay via the undergraduate application.

Earlier this month I was just nervous and checked my application. It was showing that I had not submitted my essay at all. Great. So I had to rewrite my essay since I didn't have a copy (on my PC) saved anywhere.

I then contacted FSU's admissions office and they said I can just email to them and they'll attach it manually. After rewriting it, I sent it and they attached it the next morning. I checked in on my app again today and my application isn't showing that I haven't submitted an essay still. I'm hoping that it really is attached and that it just isn't updated since it's manually been added.

I love FSU's admissions department. They're nice and everything, so I should be 100% confident that my essay will still be seen. However my admission decision arrives next week and I'm getting more scared that I won't get in. Should I go ahead and just resubmit my essay via the undergrad application or stay calm and just let it go (since they've already attached the app to my file even though I don't see it).

After I finished writing this, I realized that they could've just printed it out and attached it to whatever physical file they use (if any) or they could've done it outside the app system I see (maybe to an internal one), but I'm doubting myself.

Whenever I was in doubt I would call and be persistent. Try to get a definitive answer and be very sincere when you thank whoever you speak with.

Ex: “I submitted… detail-detail-detail, etc. I’m concerned that the essay hasn’t been attached and I will miss the deadline as a result, I would like to speak with someone to confirm that it’s been received and attached.”

When you get someone on the phone, at any point through the process including whoever answers the call, use that individual’s name and also make note of anyone who gives you a definitive answer.

After doing all that I managed to get my residency status corrected in a relatively short time. FSU has been impressive to me so far in how kind and willing everyone is to get something done for you. I fought 6 months at my previous institution and never received in-state status, a few calls and some mailed letters and FSU nailed it in 2 phone calls.

Yesterday (or the day before) FSU sent out an email saying that admission decisions would come early. I nearly died since my essay was received only two days ago.

I got in guys!

Now all I have to worry about is Bright Futures – I’ve got to get my volunteer hours logged (I can’t get a signature from someone 60 miles away :().

Looking at everyone else’s stats, I can’t believe I got in.

And all my friends are going to FSU. I simply can’t wait, especially because I won’t be as alone anymore hahaha (I was scared that I’d have to go to USF or somewhere of the sort by myself).

Irrational, I know, but I’d miss them too much hahaha (still irrational).

The part that surprises me the most about the whole thing would be that the essay was no longer mandatory for admissions. Did that change this year?

I actually didn’t know it was optional; I actually worked really hard on mine because I thought it would have a big impact :l Welp, at least it worked out lol Imo it kind of sucks if they did remove it this year because it makes FSU look like they are less holistic, but whatever.
