Wes Math + Econ

I'm applying to Wes and I'd like to know the strength of the Math department? I know the econ is great but how is the math department? Specifically, I'd like to know if the applied math courses are any good and how the selection is.

you’ll find plenty of courses in advanced topology; it’s a school specialty: <a href=“WesMaps - Wesleyan University”>WesMaps - Wesleyan University;

Also, if you punch in keywords like, “combinatorics”, you’ll find courses covering those topics as well: <a href=“P R I N T P A R M S P A G E”>Catalog Search - Wesleyan University;

bump 10char

bump 10char

I know quite a few math majors here and they’ve never complained about the variety of math courses.

Why don’t you just look through the listing instead of bumping a thread when you were already given the answer?

<a href=“Wesleyan University”>Wesleyan University;

This is a good question and it hasn’t been answered yet. (Advanced topology is not applied math.) It’s my understanding that Wesleyan’s math department is more pure than applied, which is not bad or good, it’s just what it is. I notice that this year Math231 and 232, the probability and statistics courses for students who know calculus were not offered. Does anyone know if those courses are usually offered?

I agree that the math dept is pure, but most math dept’s are…

There’s a math-econ major, or one can pursue a double major if you want the applications which there are plenty of in econ classes.

As far as classes being offered, normally classes are offered every other year if not every year .

My bad. I totally missed that part of the OP’s question. For some reason I had it in my head that the OP was this person from the Middlebury thread by the same name:

Here is the Math-Econ site for Wesleyan:
