Wesleyan or Macalester?

a fd of mine got accepter by both n dont know which one to choose. he wants to major in govt/econs, which is a better choice?

Wesleyan univ?

yep Wes U @ CT

Two great schools. Relative to then LAC world, Wesleyan is significantly larger than Macalester (approx 2800 vs. 1800) and as a result has more programs and course offerings, and a few more university-like resources. However, Macalester's econ and poli sci departments are among the best in the country. Tough call but your friend wins either way.

I agree that you can't go wrong. Your friend should look at the overall experience of the students and go with the gut. Myself, I like Wes.

for me, I would like to choose wesleyan over macalester...

does wes hav a better reputation? i look at the USnews ranking wes' in the top 10 but mac is 20sth, does that mean anything? and i think wes' more selective as well

Both are really great schools, and he couldn't go wrong either way, but I think Mac has the poly sci/govt edge over Wes.
He should go for quality of life and education over prestige. Where would he be happy? A smaller campus in MN? A larger one in CT? There are so many considerations.

i think prestige is there for a reason. thats why i courage him to go for wes. but i also think wes' got a stronger political atmosphere in campus, after all it has one of the most politically active student body

Mac has a very strong reputation in poli sci/government. Your friend will find no shortage of politically active students there either. And, I personally love Minneapolis-St. Paul - great city with lots going on.
