i’d say all of them would take you, your well rounded and can balance things.

2110 on your first sitting? that’s really good!
all your ECs are pretty impressive also.

I don’t know much about the other schools, but i’d say berkeley is definitely a match, if not, a low reach.

Thanks for chancing! I just hope the colleges wont mind that I’m more humanities leaning. I despise science (mostly because ALL of our teachers are terrible) and fall asleep in math. (but still make A’s :))

I think you will definitely get into all of schools…
Your GPA and SAT are fine and your EC is great!!

I think I’m going to be the party pooper and say that you aren’t a shoe-in at all of these schools. The commitment to a single thing in regards to band/music is great, but you don’t come off as well around with your ECs and, at top schools, this could be an issue. That test score is also pretty good, but not great. If you don’t improve your score on this test then it isn’t an issue, but it also won’t be a positive in the process at some of these schools, it’ll just be neutral. With all that said, here I go.

Wesleyan University - Low Reach
Pomona - Low Reach (Potentially mid reach)
Claremont McKenna - High Match/Low Reach
the Plan II program of the University of Texas - Not sure about the specific program, but being an in-state student, as I’m sure you already know, makes this a Match
Berkley - High Match
Occidental - Match/High Match

I think you have at least a good shot at all of these schools and good luck as you continue through the process.

I agree with BooksRnot4me (except that I think Occidental is a regular match, not a high one – maybe even a low match? It depends on how much more selective they’ve gotten recently). But those top LACs are basically a reach for everyone, and while your grades and scores put you in range, they are not enough above range for it to be anywhere near sure that you will get in.

Thanks BooksRnot4me and Weskid for the realism. You guys have basically voiced everything I’ve been thinking. I know I not guarenteed acceptance anywhere, but I’m being I’m fine with being a mid/low reach. I’m just trying hard on the only things I can still control like SAT and essays. And even if I dont get in anywhere OOS I still have UT as a back up and its a pretty good state school. I’m actually really suprised about Pomona chances, I still think that its going to be a high reach for me.

Wesleyan University - Reach
Pomona -
Claremont
Berkley - Reach
Occidental -

I don’t know much about the other three schools though ;|

You are in at UT but if you want to make your UT safety a little sweeter you might also apply to LAH. Plan 2, like the competitive liberal arts schools isn’t really a safety for anyone. Your essays will be heavily weighted (they use somewhat objective criteria for admission decisions and if I remember correctly each essay will count 20% toward the admissions decision, thus 40% of the decision is based on the essays, so be sure your writing is excellent. This program seeks the all around scholar so your application should reflect global interests. If you are really interested in Pamona you should probably get a second SAT 2 in the 700’s and or get the SAT 1 a little higher. I don’t know a lot about their lower thresholds but the students I know who were accepted had higher stats. As for CMC it looks like you have some strong leadership experience that is something that interests them. In the end at least in these three programs since your record doesn’t clearly make you a shoo in (few have records that do) it is very difficult to guess the criteria that will be used to decide who makes the cut. If you will be happy going to UT even if not in Plan 2 then you don’t need to look any further for a safety. If that won’t work for you then you should look at other schools that your stats match more closely. Since you are in Texas Trinity comes to mind.

Thanks 181818 for your thoughtful response. I actually am thinking about planning to apply to LAH at UT and Trinity University. I just didnt feel like posting all of that on this thread.
My choices at UT are listed in this order Plan II, LAH and then general admission. In all honesty, I’d probably be okay with UT even if I didnt make a honors program.

Good Luck! I’ve heard some great things about LAH as well as P2. I’ve known it to be peferable to students who want to focus on their chosen area of study without the obligation to take many required classes. It is hard to know how the search will turn out but I expect with the variety of schools you are considering you will end up going to a great school.
