There is a book you should read called "The Gatekeepers". The author spent a year inside the admission office (about 5 years ago) at Wesleyan and wrote about his experience. While the main point of the book is to give a look at how selective admissions operates, the book gives lots of interesting tidbits and stories about Wes as well.

Also if Wes is high on your list you should consider trying to arrange an overnite visit.

Hello, my name is Eric Sia, Freeman Scholar '09 from Malaysia.
If you have questions or would just like to talk about the scholarship, email me.
Feel free to spread my email/MSN around to others who are interested.

Hey, I'm Kin Yan from Malaysia, also studying at Wesleyan under the Freeman Scholarship in Wesleyan, same year as Eric... contact us if you have any questions

I would disagree that there is a "very particular" type that fits in at Wes. Sure there are some "types" that might have a hard time fitting in here, just like at every school. But there is a LARGE range of different types of people here, all of whom are happy.

I am a proud liberal but I would hesitate to send my kids to Wesleyan. It's not the academics--from what I hear, they're excellent. It's slanted too far to the left. I want my kids exposed to a more diverse range of opinions.

Of course I'm stalking you, Eric. Virtually as well as on campus.

I would also strongly disagree that there is a "type" on campus ... there are a huge variety of different groups here; I am sure nearly any person can find a group of similar minded students. However, the ARE "types" on campus ; that is, you should have an open mind if you decide to come here.
