Hey guys I am really torn between these two schools for ED2. I could really get into going to either school so it comes down to overall experience and which one will get me a job after college. I do not plan on staying in the south after graduation if that helps, and my intended career path is Business. I enjoy many aspects of both schools, and according to my college counselor I have roughly an equal change of getting into both. Any responses are greatly appreciated!!
Wesleyan. Based solely on this: “I do not plan on staying in the south after graduation”.
No college will get you a job. Colleges have varying levels of alumni engagement, career centers, funding for unpaid internships, help getting paid internships and jobs, career advising and so on. It’s worth looking into those.
But your GPA and your work experience and your major will largely determine post-grad success, IMO.
“Business” means a LOT. Almost everything is business - anything that isn’t non-profit, that is. Is that the major you plan on? If so, Emory has a biz school and Wes doesn’t, but you can go into business with any major at all.
Emory sends more business majors to the northeast (45% of graduating seniors) than to any other region of the US.
Yeah I don’t know what type of business I am interested in yet or if I definitely will end up doing it so that’s why I think LAC’s are the way to go for me. I just wanted to know if WES is just as competitive at getting me a job after as Emory would be?
See my first post.
Good to know. Much of my family went to E and all stayed in the SE. So it may not matter. Note biz school at Emory is not direct entry as a frosh but applied to later.
@TryHard44
Well just because you don’t plan on it now your opinion might change in 4-5 years, especially as the south has a great cost of living. Both of these schools are great for business although I suspect that Emory is better. What campus environment do you prefer? Would you prefer a near city campus or rual campus? What are your stats?
@VANDEMORY1342 My stats for my school are enough to get me a good chance for either if I apply ED2. I like Wesleyan’s campus environment better but I also like Emory too!
Most Emory sophomores (over 85%) who apply to the business school are admitted, so that should not be a concern if you want to go to Goizueta Business School. As others mentioned, Emory is a national university with a large concentration of graduates in the New York and New England areas. However, if you want a smaller liberal arts experience and going to school in New England is a draw for you, then Wesleyan is your choice. This seems like an easy choice between the two because the differences are distinct. Tougher might be Amherst and Wesleyan or Emory and Wake Forest.
Not that this is what I would base my decision off of but I was wondering which school was more prestigious. This si a factor for me, not a huge factor, but something to definitely consider.
Wesleyan was the school for the characters on “How I Met Your Mother” so there is that. Seriously, those schools are very different, so different that you should be able to use their differences to decide between them. “Prestige” in this context is perhaps one of the worst criteria possible.
