West Campus Dining Halls?

I'm going to be in Keeton this year, and I'm curious to know what the food is like before I pick a Meal Plan option.

Thing is, I am kind of picky-- I don't really eat junk food or red meat, or pretty much anything processed.

Am I actually going to be able to eat anything at school?

If anyone who lived on West last year can give me an idea of what they have for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner I would really appreciate it!

I’ll be living in Keeton as well. I’ve heard that the food isn’t to great compared to other places on West. And I’m assuming it’s certainly not better than North. They won’t serve red meat so you don’t have to worry about that, and I’m sure there are plenty of healthy foods. There were when I visited Cook and Becker dining halls.

I’m pretty sure no one knows for sure because it changes every year… or so I heard. And I thought West Campus didn’t really give you a choice for meal plans since it was included?

You have a choice between 3 meal plans.

[Dining - House Meal Plans](<a href=“Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University”>Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University)

It’s okay I never have to deal with that again.

Food on West Campus is pretty limited compared to what’s offered on North Campus. It’s still better than what most schools offer, but there is junk occasionally, though most of the food appears to be fully prepared using good ingredients. Breakfast options are OK; usually pancakes or waffles, cereal, sausage, eggs, bacon, etc. Dinners are usually better. The one redeeming quality about West Campus dining is that you’re free to hop around the numerous dining halls, so if one house isn’t offering much you can try another.

@Lollerpants - are you saying that west campus food was bad?

Becker last year was like this…

Breakfast: Pancakes or waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns or some other form of fried potatoes, various yogurts (almost always fruit flavored, though, rarely plain), usually cantaloupe and honeydew, sometime pineapple and watermelon, whole apples, oranges, bananas (great for throwing in your bag for later, too), tons of different kinds of bread for toast, english muffins, things to put on bread (cream cheese, jelly, NUTELLA), various cereals and granolas (like, six or seven… they vary day to day).

Lunch: is lame. Breads and tortillaish wrap things, things to put on sandwiches, grilled chicken breast (for sandwiches), hamburger patties, sometimes something left over from dinner the night before, pretty substantial salad bar (tofu, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, egg, artichoke hearts + most of the vegetables that you’d normally want… plus like ten salad dressing options and oil and vinegar), sometimes a soup option or two.

Dinner: we had nightly themes. I forget what they all are, but there was Pho Bar night, make your own pasta (sauce + things to put in it), Mexican-ish stuff (but it’s not that good), some Mediterranean themed thing where you made gyros, but they never looked too appetizing, a fried food night (Friday night – helpful when you know you’re giong to be drinking a lot that night…mozzarella sticks, those corn nuggets that taste like the ones at The Nines , etc), a chicken wings night (which was apparently good, but I don’t eat chicken, so I wouldn’t know). Two soup options every night. Obviously the same salad bar as at lunch time. Usually the sandwich stuff is set up, too. Always pasta + marinara or marinara/meat or alfredo sauce. And then whatever that night’s main dinner thing is – it varies greatly. Something substantial with meat, something substantial without. A couple of vegetable things/sides. Usually some kind of potatoes. Becker also has this bean medley thing that lots of people really like… it’s pretty tasty. Just like kidney beans + other beans + vegetables, but like stewed together kind of? I don’t know. Also, lots and lots of desert options… cakes, cookies, brownies, etc etc. Cereal is always there, too. And ice cream.

I think that’s about it? OH, and Sunday brunch is pretty great. If you get the right person making the personalized omelets, they’re really good.

However, the breakfast (and lunch?) stuff is changing this year, since only Bethe and Cook are serving full breakfast daily… the other houses are only doing continental breakfast, which I assume is like fruit + cereal options + bread/english muffins/things to put on toast. Lame, but understandable, considering having five dining halls right next to one another wastes way too much energy to begin with.

I think that’s gives a pretty good summary. I’m a vegetarian and I veeery rarely had problems finding something to eat in Becker.

wow thanks for that description!

west campus dining halls for the 08-09 school year, in my opinion -

1) Cook
2) Bethe
3) Keeton
4) Becker
5) Rose

Of course, many people feel differently. I liked Keeton, but for the most part…the dining halls on west are much the same. I lived in Edgemoor, so I had a regular meal plan, so I just went to different dining halls every night - though normally Bethe, because I liked it and it was closer than Cook. I feel like the West Campus dining halls have better food - but less selection. Sooo…if you hate what they fix, you are kind of stuck that night, but if you like what they fix, it is better than North.

My opinion:

1) Bethe
2) Cook
3) Rose
4) Keeton
5) Becker

The last three are pretty close in my mind, but I usually prefer Bethe and Cook over the rest.

Is there any off-campus chinese restaurant that has Dim Sum?

Yes, there are. But can’t remember the names haha.

They probably aren’t that great quality though.

I hear it’s pretty expensive.

I think the name was like Han Hong or something along those lines but I can’t remember right now.

Ahh, yeah that sounds right.

Okay I looked it up. It’s HAI Hong. My bad.

ah cool. do you know of any others? just curious

RPCC brunch. Yep. Pretty sure that’s it.

Oh alright. RPCC brunch is alright though.

whats RPCC?
