Hello Cornellians, was wondering if you'd like to share some thougths/opinons on certain dining halls. Things from costs, to style and food selection and quality and etc. Im incoming freshman and I can't wait to arrive. What halls you like/dislike and why/why not? What are some good dishes!?

ive been to that site 1000 times and read it all, not a whole lot of info, and im looking for opinions and stuff. Like when i went on my recruit I heard them say, no lets not go to ___ hall its not as good as ___ hall. and stuff

ps. why's ur name towerpumpkin?

Remember that incident a few years ago where a pumpkin was put on top of McGraw tower?

For dining halls, my favorite is North Star by far. Then, probably Jansen's (though many will disagree, but I stand by my decision because I didn't live on west), and RPU (used to be better before they downgraded the noodles). Then, in last place, is Oakenshields, which they recently renovated to make it look nicer and the food to taste much worse.

I will be one of the many to disagree with Neutral. Jansen's sucks.

North Star's probably the best. I only eat at Oakenshields occasionally but they always seem to have good sandwiches and deserts. RPU's decent too (esp. the mongolian barbque).

Can you use your "Big Red Bucks" at off-campus restaurants? Or for take-out?

mongolian bbq!!!!!

Big red bucks are only for on-campus use. They have this program called "citybucks" which are accepted by off-campus restraunts, but I don't use this bc its pretty much pointless.

Here's my rating

RPME
Northstar
Jansens
Okenshields (the food is horrible there)

rpme? and ne particular reasons why?

robert purcell marketplace eatery (its the full name of the dinning hall in RPCC). I like it better then Northstar bc it has some specialty items (pasta, noodles, burritos etc) that Northstar doesn't.

north star (especially thursday lunch -- gui dea is sooo great)
alice cook (the food has gotten sooooooo much better since the beginning of the year)
jansen on wednesdays (that's the only day i've ever gone to jansen on)
rpcc
okenshield's

what foods do they have for vegeterians? i personally hate the bland foods like pizza, and pasta

you'd like rpcc -- huuuge salad bar.

A lot. For example, the mongolian stir fry that people have been raving about in this thread is completely vegetarian.

They are obsessed with vegetarians. And vegans.

I would say that at least 50% of the entrees that they put out there are vegetarian. In addition, all of the dishes are labelled as to whether they are vegetarian or vegan and also as to any allergens that they may contain (wheat, seafood, etc). The CU dining people are extremely conscienscious regarding this, so I don't think it will be a problem.

isnt alice cook for the program house residents only? or for all?

it's for all except wednesday night when they have the house only dinner (like dinner at home...not buffet style) but it's not always very good on those nights, so my friends and i usually go to jansen.

Eat at Risley-- the main courses there are consistently much better than north star or jansens. There's also always cold and warm sandwiches made to order and stir fry that has more ingredients than the rpu mongolean bbq (and meat!). Furthermore, it's in a big gothic hall that looks like Hogwarts.

To defend Oakenshields, they have very good dinners which most people don't know about as they tend to eat closer to the dorms. The food is very ecclectic but of good quality. The chinese food here is also the best on campus. Occasionally Oakenshields will serve fancy foods-- prime rib, fresh apple desserts-- which are definately one of the finer points of Cornell dining.

There's also Louies Lunch and Hot Truck which serve sandwiches and other warm/cold foods on campus. They aren't on meal plans, but they are soooo good.

is mangolian bbq a restaurant- not part of cornell dining?
