West Point has started giving out LOAs

I got a call from West Point today congratulating me on getting an LOA.

I should get the letter soon in either a couple days or a couple of weeks depends on which address they sent it to.

I just thought somebody would like to know that they are being given at the moment.

Sounds like leave of absence???

Congratulations!

Is this a new policy??

dbluecap,

Congratulations! It really is a big deal. And we love hearing good news.

Now hurry up and get all of your paperwork in. ;-)

Hazmat:

LOA is acronym for letter of assurance - a notice from West Point that a spot has been set aside for a given candidate conditional on that candidate passing the physical, getting a nomination, and filling out the appropriate paperwork. In case you're wondering, It's a very good thing.

Read LOA thread below for more info.

Thanks Aspen.....I didn't know this info and yes it is a very good thing!! Again, thanks for the help......I had no clue.

thanks dbluecap and congrats. But I must ask, what are your stats? They must be pretty impressive to get one this early.

Congrats dbluecap! It's that time of year when they start coming out! Good luck on the dodmerb physical and getting your packet in! An LOA is great to have this early in the game!

Thanks, dbluecap, for letting us know. And congratulations!

DS#2 also received his WP LOA in the mail. He was pleasantly surprised. His dodmrb physical is scheduled in the next few days.

As his mom I haven't decided how I feel about all this.

Kat

kat,

You're in good company. Many of the parents on the service academy boards have had mixed feelings. And we go through quite a few ups and downs during the application process. I am a child of the 60's and when my daughter expressed interest in WP, I was shocked. I didn't think her interest would last. But I did my homework and am so very impressed with all of the service academies (especially West Point).

She's going through Beast right now and has 2 extremely proud parents. I really believe that the answer to not knowing how you feel about this is to get as much information as possible. You'll find some here, and on the usma.edu web site and also at prospective.net.

http://www.west-point.org/parent/prospective-net/

You will definitely want to subscribe to their e-mail newslist as you will receive valuable information. Also, you may want to visit West Point at some point after the academic year begins.

Best of luck to both of you. The LOA is quite a big deal. Your son must be very special.

Did you go to SLS or send in a six-semester transcript?

Kat -

Congratulations. I'll just echo everything MOT said (except that I do NOT have a D in Beast!).

If you haven't done so, read "Absolutely American". Watch the National Geographic videos. Learn all you can. It will help.

Again what are his stats? Especially his sat.

how do you get a LOA?

jd -

I recommend you google LOA's on the West Point forum. They have been discussed extensively.

You do not get an LOA by asking for one it is earned by the strength of your application.

^no kidding?
