Western Carolina University Auditions

Hi everyone, I've been looking into WCU a little bit and so far I'm pretty confused on their audition policy. On their website the B.F.A. requirement first listed is:
Entrance into the program will require the following:

(1) Sophomore standing and the completion of no more than 90 hours;

In addition, the university only holds auditions in the spring. Despite this, I found a thread with many people talking about acceptances during senior year. I'm just pretty confused as to whether you audition for the program going into freshman year or once you have already completed your freshman year at the college?

I found this information from this past year-- Pretty standard stuff:

Admittance

Admittance to WCU’s Musical Theatre Program is by audition only; the entire audition must be memorized.

Audition dates are scheduled for the spring semester each year. Our next audition dates are March 16th, 2013 and April 13th, 2013.

Please download, complete and return an Audition Application Form (Word)

You must also be admitted to Western Carolina University. Please visit the Office of Admissions for admissions requirements and the application process.

Singing

Applicants must prepare two songs (One 32 bars and One 16 Bars) from the standard Broadway repertoire: a ballad that shows a sustained legato line and an “up tempo” number. Please come with music prepared in a 3 ring binder and bars clearly marked start to stop to accommodate the accompanist.

An accompanist will be provided in Cullowhee.

Acting

Auditionees must perform a comical or dramatic monologue from a contemporary play or musical that last 1.5 - 2 mins in length.

Dancing

All candidates must participate in a dance class (warm-up and several combinations). Auditionees must wear standard rehearsal attire or clothing and shoes that allow for ease of movement. Sandals and tennis shoes are not considered proper attire.

I also believe they only do on campus auditions

That is correct. It seems to me that you audition for the program going into your freshman year but I may be going on a tour this summer so I’ll just ask then or call the MT department.

Good program. Daughter’s friend just graduated in May and has already booked National Tour! Worth trying out. Terrence Mann will be directing Les Miz there next year.
