Thanks! All the kids are such a tight knit group, I am sure she knows your D’s friend. Such a relief to have a happy kid at a solid program.

Just a reminder that we have auditions Feb 2, Mar 16, & April 13. We are very excited with the amount of applications we have been receiving. For application visit -

If you have any questions,do not be afraid to ask!

Does Western Carolina go to Unifieds in Chicago or New York?

Unfortunately, We do not attend Unifieds! However, if those three dates do not work for you we are able to schedule a private audition as well.

We understand the convenience of Unifieds and hope to be able to participate later on in the future.

WCUSAS, My D was just accepted into the BFA MT program. She has several other schools she’s considering but Western Carolina is very high on her list. What can you tell me about transportation to the airport (Asheville or Greenville Spartanburg)? I understand there may have been a shuttle at one point in time…A private shuttle service wants $110 each way - Yikes! Also, what is the weather like during the winter? Does it snow quite a bit and how is it to get around the campus on “snow days”?

I just got accepted into the BFA MT program, too! Newbiesagemom, about the weather- It’s sort of in the valley so it doesn’t snow as much as you’d think. I’ve spent a lot of time in the area (Asheville-ish) and while Cullowhee definitely gets more snow than Asheville, its not THAT much. It rains almost every day though, WCU also stands for We Carry Umbrellas I’m personally on the look out for some awesome rain boots to invest in!

Congrats on your acceptance! Thanks for the info on the snow. Any advice on airport transportation to and from Asheville or Greenville/Spartanburg? It looks like Jackson County had transportation from the school but was discontinued…I know I could always call admissions but hate to bother them during what I am sure is a crazy time for them.

Newbiestagemom -
We are happy to hear about your D’s success. There a lot of students who commute from the airport to school for breaks and such. Most of the time the students fine rides with others in the program. There has never been a problem with someone trying to get home. We have an MT who is from Alaska and she always finds someone to drop her off at the airport which is 45 minutes away in Asheville. Even some go to Charlotte for the airport and there are students who are from the area so that’s not an issue either.

It is very easy to get around on campus on snow days. The weather is a little up and down - we never have the same type of year twice so it is hard to tell. We have had several cancelled class days because of snow but the on campus dining and such are still open so it’s never a huge inconvenience on snow days.

Let us know if you have anymore questions!

Thanks for the information! Any recommendations on dorms for freshman MT’s? Is there one that houses the stage and screen students or is random? She prefers private suite style. Thanks again!

Newbiestagemom - Anytime! As a freshman I stayed with a roommate in Scott Hall - the freshman dorm. It was amazing to experience and get to know students outside the program. The more friends you make the easier it is to get in touch with the university and not be so stressed when there is a lot going on. It also makes you well rounded.

There are options such as Blue Ridge & Balsam (which is an honors dorm) If your D has a high enough GPA she can join the Honors College and stay in the Honors dorm.

There are a ton of Housing Options. I think staying in contact with Student Housing is your best option. Their information can be found on our website [Western Carolina University](http://www.wcu.edu).

However, housing is totally random, unless you are in Honors Dorm or have any physical disabilities. Stay in contact with the Student Housing Dept and they will definitely help you out.

I am bumping this thread as the young man who began it is now out on a National Tour and they still have 2 audition dates available in March and April and rolling admission.

Will add that the film department is required to use MT and Acting Majors in the film projects that they take to film festivals which will give students IMDB credits. These are all great things. We auditioned early there and are taking some of our kids back up there to take some classes next week. Will give feedback when we get back.

Hi! I am a sophomore musical theatre major at Western! If anyone has any questions about the program, let me know! I am more then happy to answer them! There are still two more audition dates for our program and one is on the same weekend as our production of Les Miz directed by Terrence Mann!

NAtlantaStudio - how did you like WCU? We are heading there for an audition in April?

We are now not going until Monday as there was a hiccup with some families here at the studio.

Love to hear your thoughts when you return.

Absolutely! I know when we auditioned there the group was WONDERFUL!!! They seem to be very cohesive team and spent a good hour and a half after the audition answering questions and talking to the kids.

I just got back from my daughter’s audition. We saw Les Miz there and I was blown away by the vocal talent at this school. The amount of Broadway ready voices was insane. The Performing Arts center theater sat over 1000. The campus is really nice, the dorm rooms I saw were nicer than most and the kids were so friendly, enthusiastic and really seemed to like each other and the program. The dance combo was not easy and the dance studio was the largest dance room I have ever seen!

And I see that your daughter got in! Congratulations!!! (the performing arts center is insanely gorgeous!)

There is great talent at WCU, and the talent is getting significantly stronger. They were stronger at SETC than they have been in a long while. The dance teacher (Karyn?) is criminally underrated. I think they went through a leadership change recently, and it worked out well for them. Don’t know much about this program, but definitely in the recommend grouping.
