Western Michigan for Voice?

According to best-music-colleges.com, Western Mich's voice/opera program is one of the best in Michigan. With the program being pretty competitive, I would assume that they would offer a good program. Does anybody have any more information about Western? Is it as good of a music school as I think it is?

This is not going to be of much help specifically to your question about the opera program, but I know of three very talented singers who have attended Western Michigan and loved it. However, all of them are more jazz/pop singers as opposed to classical. Hopefully, someone with specific knowledge will answer soon. Best of luck!

I can’t really tell you much about them, because several of the people there are new. My D auditioned there because she loves the school (she has been there many times for different musical occasions); however, I am not very familiar with all of the voice faculty (except for David Little - he is fantastic), as I am an instrumentalist (I received my Masters in Music there). My D met the choral teacher this summer and really liked her. They have had some fabulous choral directors in the past, but most have gone on to larger universities.

I wish I could tell you more about the vocal faculty, but it IS a good music school. It is highly thought of in Michigan - I don’t know about outside of Michigan. And it is very competitive to get into WMU.

I don’t know if any of this helps. Congratulations on all your acceptances and good luck with whatever school you choose. It’s a tough choice, isn’t it? :)

Thank you so much! I am trying to gather more information about the school and I am going to be visiting it again in a couple weeks.

And yes saxlady, it is a very tough choice haha, but I really like the program and who knows? I might be attending the school next year!
