WFU's value for money

Hi, I'm in a very confused state right now because I'm literally going through a stage where I'm highly interested in one college, but then the next second, I do a complete 180 change in heart. But yeah, so anyway my real question here is do you guys think that if I have to wind up paying full $$ for WFU that it's still worth coming here, or am I better off at Joe Schmo State considering I want to do premed, and money spent is a very large consideration.

Paying full freight at any college for pre-med would be foolish. It is far better to go to a cheaper school for undergrad, excel there, and be able to pay for the medical school of your choice. Apply if you like Wake, however, because you may qualify for merit scholarships.

I think that there are definite advantages in going to a small, private school as a pre-med. If nothing else, you'll be a more well-rounded student when you graduate because Wake's divisionals force you to take a wide range of subjects (although that's slightly less so now than it is for my class, I believe). What it comes down to is a personal choice and a financial one. I'll be perfectly honest and say that I simply couldn't have attended Wake if it hadn't been for some merit money, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't have wanted to.

I'm still up in the air about what the best choice in situations like these. I mean, it definitely makes sense to save as much money as possible for med school, but at the same time, you've got to consider whether the extra attention and help that you'd get at a private school might actually make you more likely to get into med school. Ultimately, I think that it takes a lot more self discipline to excel at a large, public school than a small, private one, but it's definitely not impossible by any means.
