Those are some mediocre SAT scores for any Ivy League, let alone UPenn's Wharton program. Jeez.

may I just ask where you received these stats? I really want to see what kind of applicants are successful.

ps: Im also from BC

Leprechaun, go to the stickied decisions thread from last year

Repeat after me and nota bene:

above a certain level *"it's not about the stats"*

Which is why these chances questions are ridiculous. No one here will see your entire application. Even if they could, I suspect their prediction would be wrong 50% of the time.

Here are actual results. Keep in mind even these may be suspect. Posters may have lied about their stats and a lot of rejected formerly active posters will be embarrassed to post their decision: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/126013-official-penn-ed-decisions-class-2010-a.html

yes thats right too quaker. That a kids personality is the most important part of his or her application. BUT, certain scores are expected from all applicants. Its what EXTRA these kids can do to make themselves seem original and interesting. The scores are expected. oh and u may say "why is this freaking sophmore talking." but i know a bunch of ppl from Penn and Princeton who all say the exact same things as well. So i didnt come up with this stuff.

The point is that the "certain scores" are lower than you may think. The CC members who post here are generally more obsessed than the typical applicant, particularly with SAT scores when a 20 to 50 point difference really means very little in admissions (above a 700). Focus instead on conveying your academic and extra curricular passions, impressing the teachers who will write your reccs and crafting your essays so convincingly that the reader will look for a reason to admit you. Those are the type of things that can't be conveyed on a "Chances" thread.

yes..........the SAT is a lot of times used only as a tie breaker between 2 exceptional students. And chances thread sometimes are stupid because we dont know what the student is really like. But why not give them some hope so they dont end up not applying at all.

Sushant,

I'm really not trying to pick on you and wish you much luck, but you have it backwards. The SAT score would not be the tiebreaker unless it's hundreds of points apart.

Let me use this overly simplistic process: The applications get sorted into three piles: 1. Automatic reject (they don't even come close to having the stats), 2. Automatic accept (their dad donated a few mill, they are star athletes or nationally ranked in their ECs) and 3. "could go either way". Group three gets the closest look and the reader of the application considers it holistically: GPA, SATs, ECs, essays, recs, etc. At Penn, GPA & class rank usually trumps SAT unless the HS is unknown.

Right, a responsible poster would encourage them to apply, take their best shot and have a back up plan, not "woohoo, 800 you're in"

but i also said "jk lol". dammit, i said just kidding!

ok here is the exact statement!

"800 math.. wohoo that seems to do the trick for wharton. lol jk"
Read the last 2 words!!!
