How much does Wharton value business experience (ie. summer internships, FBLA)? If an applicant were considered "qualified" in the sense that they have decent stats/test scores/ECs, but no demonstrated business-related passions, would said applicant have a much lower shot of acceptance to Wharton, than say HYPSM (considering that Wharton and HYPSM have similar admission rates)?

Bump 10 char.

Here’s my 2 cents, although it is not necessarily backed by a lot of experience/knowledge compared to some people. So here I go.

I will be a frosh this fall at Wharton. I had no real biz experience (however an interest in it I mentioned in the required supplemental essay). But I had great stats (perfect ACT, 4.0, 800/800/780 on subject tests).

So I am not a great example of what happens if you DO have biz experience. But as I understand it and have heard, you must have interest and potential. I’m not quite sure how a different balance of experience & stats works out…sorry. I’ll have to defer to someone else on that count.

hope this helps. PM if you have more questions.

I have no experience in business, and I wasn’t in the top 25% of my 2000 person class (in boston). I got a 33 on the ACT.

Obviously I wasn’t a shoo-in at all, but I think my ECs and essays helped me. I wrote 1 essay about my personal life, another about my views on management and effective communication, and one about how basically I would be involved in everything if I could get into Penn/Wharton. It worked for me.

Admissions are random. Good luck!

I’m kinda the opposite. I have business/econ EC’s (starting a company, econ competitions), engineering ec’s, varsity sport, instrument (youth symphony), a bunch of work with non-profits, and community service, but my stats are mediocre (33 ACT, 2060 SAT, 800 physics, 800 math II). My EC work has taken up most of my time and I’ve honestly have never really studied for SAT’s/ACT’s apart from some practice tests on sparknotes (ghetto). lol

would you guys say that wharton is more test score biased or do they take more of a hollistic approach? I wrote my essays on entrepreneurship and adapting to American culture.

Oh and I’m also applying to the jerome fisher m&t program. any thoughts on how their admission process works?

and I’m asian :(
