Hey guys, I was going to post this on the NYU forums but decided that the UPENN forums are the right place for this question

Anyways, although Im class of '14, I already have my sights set on NYU Stern. All my stats,EC's seem to be a good fit for the school.

But one thing that offsets me is all the aspiring Wharton-ers applying to Stern as a backup. For example my friend whose got near perfect grades, 2350 SAT, a laundry list of AMAZING EC's is applying to Wharton as his first choice, with NYU Stern as a safety.

How frequent do you guys see such a thing?

I'm doing exactly what your friend is doing.
I'm sure a lot of people are doing the same, because a lot of really top students get rejected from Wharton.

I think I will put it this way:
Wharton is #1
Stern is something like #10

so to avoid the horde of wharton rejects, my best bet would be to apply ED?

Yes, definitely.
Especially if it is your number one choice.

im not sure if wharton is your first choice, then you should apply to stern just for the heck of avoiding wharton rejects...

one, you should apply to your first no matter what. unless you are sure you cant get into wharton and stern is your second choice. and ONLY if stern is your second choice.

two, many wharton rejects dont go to stern. many of them go onto duke, uva, other ivies, cal, ucla... (and im not saying these schools are "lesser" schools)

three, what are you looking to study... finance? to go into investment banking? ive heard although nyu has optimal location, ive heard it is extremely hard to get a job out of stern. id rather study something business related at duke than go to stern..

just my two cents though... all im saying is DO NOT apply to stern ED if it isnt your second choice school next to wharton. if it is your third, fourth, or lower, you might as well apply to wharton and then also see if you can get into your second choice school or other choices that are ranked ahead of stern on your list.

^ yea, NYU is definitely my first choice

I was just wondering if I applied RD to Stern, would I be competing alongside Wharton rejects.

^^ hahah then yah, if nyu is your first choice then obviously apply ED... and yes to somewhat of a degree a good amount of wharton rejects will be applying to stern RD

the only advantage of ED for nyu is that there are less people applying ED (about 4000), while 33000 apply RD
however nyu will not select someone because the fact ur ED

I remember reading the NYU pamphlet and it said there is no maximum cap on those who they'll accept ED. Unlike some schools who set a specific number of students that they won't exceed for early, NYU claims they won't do that..

Anyway, I know many many people who went to Stern after getting rejected from Wharton. I think ED is the way to go.
