Wharton Questions?!

I’m applying ED to Wharton, and have a couple questions…

  1. Can I apply as undeclared TO Wharton? If so, is applying undeclared to Wharton a lot harder than applying for, let’s say finance, marketing, etc., to Wharton in terms of acceptance?

  2. If I end up changing majors (Business --> ?), how easy is it to switch colleges or majors from Wharton?

  3. Is Wharton really stressful, in terms of grade deflation, cut-throat people, and workload? I really don’t want to go to a college where the environment is swamped with indefinite stress…

  4. If I get accepted to Wharton, am I going to be walking all over campus to my other classes instead of having all of my classes within Wharton (knowing that the building is really small compared to the rest of the campus which I would love to explore daily)?

Here’s a link to my application if you want to chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18901625#Comment_18901625

I’m not sure if you can apply undeclared! I would call the Wharton Undergrad office and ask.
It is easier to switch out of Wharton than to switch into Wharton.
Wharton is extremely stressful. I have 2 friends who go there and both of them study all the time. Of course, the stress is what you make of it. Some people are good at dealing with stress, and can manage a work hard play hard lifestyle, but for others it’s harder. I would suggest thinking this through before EDing. Is it worth it to be happy or to go to a good school?
You will have 40% of your classes not be in Wharton, so expect the walking.

Hope that helps!

  1. Everyone applies "undeclared." So clearly that makes no difference.
  2. It's really easy to switch out, or add another degree.
  3. Academically it's fine. People aren't cut-throat, some are really competitive but they're collaborative as well. I don't know anyone in Wharton who "studies all the time." Clubs are essential to Wharton though, and those with academics can leave you pretty busy (which you presumably want anyway).
  4. First, Huntsman Hall is one of the nicest buildings on-campus, and SDHD (the other building where you'll have Wharton classes) is very good as well. But you'll have gen-eds, and you'll probably walk across campus a lot for them.
