Wharton Transfer

i dont have a chance at all if my college gpa first year is something like a 3.3 right? does it help that my hs gpa was a 3.976W and i've always been really strong in the math department, 800 for the math portion of SAT I, 770 SAT II math, 5 on AP calc BC, A+'s in college math courses, done with multivariable calc, taking intermediate econ next year?

if i work really hard and get a 4.0 next semester before i apply, is there even a whisper of a hope? or should i just go for econ at CAS?

For a tranfer application, do we still use Penn's online application?

Some issues I ran into were, there are only six activity slots. Considering I have four years of high school and college activities, it seems hard to fit in all the activities into six slots. Are we allowed to send a resume to Penn using the optional information attachment or is that only for fine arts related achievements.

Also is it advisable to focus on College activities or high school activities. I was thinking that I'd highlight 1-2 of my major college ECs and focus the rest of the activities section on high school experiences because I committed more than just 1 year (like in college) to them.

Roughly how long should the two tranfer essays be?

^ Essays need to be 1 page. It says so on the paper app.

I have a 3.89 as a sophmore at Penn State University Park, 1240 GPA, do i have a shot at transferring into wharton?

Add me to the Wharton transfer list...stats below...Wharton is one of my top choices behind HYS (<---rejected from all 3 as a freshman).

College:

GPA: 3.85

What are the essays for external transfer usually? I would imagine they are the same from year to year.

I think I've read Why do you want to transfer? Why do you want to transfer to Penn?

And I think there may be more. Anyone know?

I just externally transferred into Wharton as a sophomore this year. I advise that you use the online application (which is the same as the one for freshman applicants).

There are 2 essays:

Essay 1: Why transfer and Why Penn? (You should briefly explain your decision to leave your current school and focus primarily on why you want Penn).

Essay 2: Page 217 OR Risk OR First Experience

I was told by admissions that there were somewhere in the range of 500 applicants during the 2008 application cycle and I believe they look to admit around 20-25 external transfers.

Good luck!

On the Why Transfer essay, is it a legitmate reason to state that there is a better job outlook at Penn than a previous school?

I would GUESS that's not a good reason (although, undoubtedly, its somewhere in every transfer applicant's rationale). But, I'm in the same boat you are looking to transfer, so I wouldn't really know.

I was wondering what are my chances as an external transfer.

College:

GPA: 4.0
Credits: 32 Hours by this Fall
College: A Texas A & M system university
Major: Accounting (Changing it to Finance)
Clubs: Student Government Association, Students of Free Enterprise, & AITP chapter
SAT Reasoning: 2000 (Going to retest 3 more times to get it higher)
AP: Going to take Calculus AB in the Spring
Job: Set-up and maintained computer infrastructure for a restaurant and clothing vendor, I'm planning on working for a bank this year, and interning at Merill Lynch this summer.
Extracurricular: UIL Computer Science & National Honor Society member during high school and haven't done any sports since a car crash that I had when I was little left my leg too weak for it.
Awards: UIL Computer Science 3rd, 6th medal, and never first =(.
Familial ties: None
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Dark side: I've dropped 3 classes during my spring and summer session semesters
Bright side: They were because of family problems and a family member being admitted to the hospital for liver failure. Though I'm not sure the reasons are suppose to be on the bright side... but they're good reasons for dropping.

What do you guys think?

So, if you're looking to transfer and you're already in college, you could theoretically retake the SATs or ACTs and maybe some APs too?

For instance, say I had a very high GPA my freshman year of college and decided that I wanted to go the business route and wanted to be try applying to Wharton, but my standardized test scores from high school weren't enough above-average to really distinguish me/my application. Would it be recommended to retake these tests?

I was wondering what are my chances as an external transfer.

What do you guys think?

what about if you’re coming from schools such as the University of Texas @ Austin or Texas A&M. What are your chances?

Is a 3.7 GPA in an engineering/business dual degree competitive at all? Im a freshman at USC and I may start to consider transferring to wharton just to try lol, I have pretty good ECs (I even have a leadership position this year), am in a sports team, a ton of professional experience (interning at a renowned firm this summer too), and I’m sure writing the best killer essays wont be a problem for me (I am a master of persuasive and eloquent *****ting - this I * you not).

Oh and how much weight is put on your high school record (Can I even have a high school prof recommend me)? I have a 2100 SAT LOLz… pretty low for penn standards right

Transfer into Wharton is impossible.

^ okay thanks lol, I might have to burst my delusional bubble soon then. Anyone else have an opinion?

how bout transfering to Penn CAS?

I am a Junior looking to transfer to Wharton for the Sophomore year. My family’s shifting and well my current College is not quite worth to complete the time. Lecture based learning with no case studies and absolutely no room for growth.

My Stats now:

My GPA in 3.52
My SAT I is 2390
SAT II Subjects in Math Level 1,2 (800 both) and US (790) and World History (780).

So My TOEFL iBT is 100.

I’m already a Business student. And I’ve done A Levels and O Levels in Business Studies, Economics and Accounting as major with Straight As in them.

My Non-qualitative credentials include:

My own Public service (Non-profit) organisation. I’m the Trustee and the Founder. So we provide free food, business solutions, and spread education and awareness in the underprivileged.
I’m a member of the WWF and my own individual work as a volunteer includes spreading awareness about animals as well as environment conservation. Under my company I involve my college community as well as my residential community in restoring cut-trees as well as planting new ones. The work is only growing.

Okay other than that, My dad has a power-design company and I am heading my own Strategic Business Unit under the company.

I’ve taken part in 2 Business idea competitions, stood 2nd in 1st and well trying to win the second. I’m the Leader of both of the teams.

I’m also the captain of my college’s women soccer and cricket team. And we’ve won 2 times within college and once in National level competition.

I’m currently at the moment persuading my school principal to change the way the school works. I’ve got a winning idea that’s suitable to the school as well.

My High School Credentials:
My high schools stats aren’t really that impressive. I am in top 3 out of 45 students of my class.

And my Extra curriculars include:

Head of the Disciplinary Committee for 3 consecutive years. Stepped down to give my pal the way to growth too.
My school was a real slack. We had no clubs or societies. So that’s about it.
In summer i’ve got 2 Internships with my dad!

So Judging by these stat can anyone guide me of how much competitive they are or can get me through and into Wharton? Look, obviously i’m applying either way, But just need more help. I have 6 months to do more too! So anyone for advice or an analysis?

I got rejected this year and am planning on attending Cal. But I want to transfer to wharton after my freshmen year.
