So I’m guessing a lot of kids applying to wharton are also applying to Ross and vice versa. I was wondering what the pros and cons of each business school was. I know Wharton has had a solid reputation for a long time but Ross seems to making significant gains in the past few years. Any input would be appreciated.

Go to Ross if you can't get into Wharton. Period.

I sedond that. The students that go to Ross are the ones who couldn't get into Wharton

What on earth is Ross? I've heard of Stern but never Ross.

its the business school for University of Michigan.......I only found out about it couple months ago........

Ross is an excellent school, and a great value if you get instate tuition.

I gurarantee you that the top students at Ross could outdo the average student at Wharton in terms of receiving interviews and job offers from top i-banking institutions and consulting firms any day of the week. Overall, Wharton has a better undergraduate business program than Ross but there are several key advantages that Ross holds.

incoming preadmit freshman class is smaller in size(~50 kids rather than the 400 or so that Wharton takes every year I think) so each business student gets much more individualized attention

Ann Arbor>>>East Philly(don't even bother challenging me on this point:))

more opportunities for interaction with professors since student:instructor ratio is much lower than it is at Wharton

UMich social life>>>UPenn's social life(no getting drunk while at Mathcamp doesn't count)

UMich sports(basketball and football-i.e. the sports that matter)>>>UPenn(yay go Quaker Badmington...not)

Umich is better than Wharton at certain business departments(Marketing and Economic theory comes into mind)

Ok you make some interesting points but many of them center around locaton, social life, sports....And yes those are valid points I got the impression the OP was trying to compare the individual schools with a more academic perspective. Yes, the top Ross kids could probably outdo the average Wharton student in terms of placement etc but that is true across many schools. The top U.Maryland student could probably outdo the average Yale student in terms of placement etc for a certain job but I would be willing to bet that the top Wharton students would outdo the top Ross students. Oh and btw Wharton is ranked higher than UMich in terms of Marketing http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/bizspec08_brief.php and the point of a business education is not to learn economic theory...if you want that you major in econ.

Ross kids can most likely kick the asses out of the wharton kids.

Wow what a great argument

Difference between Wharton and Ross kids:

6 inches. Ross has the advantage.

Bust. (10 char.)

not that i have anything against michigan or anything, but i don't understand a lot of this random penn bashing. penn is a social school and philadelphia is a great city.

i have to say, east philly and center city is better than ann arbor for sure...

now west philly, where penn is actually located, may not be so nice, but it's getting better...

Wharton is the # 1 undergraduate business school. Period.

(Find me one source that does NOT say so!)

also, i think philly has nicer weather than ann arbor...

Look, both are great schools! So what if the people who get rejected from Wharton go to Ross? I'll be willing to bet that some of those kids who got rejected are just as good if not better than some of the Wharton acceptees. With admissions being so random nowadays, the level of students is not an issue. They are both great undergraduate programs, and yes, I give Wharton the edge. However, in terms of significance later on, it does not make that big of a difference where each student went to college. Working hard in one will make one more successful than just being at another. Both are great. Although if we're talking social aspects, Michigan kills Penn. But in academia, I give the edge to Penn, although it really does not make that big of a difference.

Wharton has many of the top athletic recruits and children of the biggest donors. I don't think Ross is full of football players who will drop out after 3 years to go to the NFL.

Are you ****ting me?

Are you saying ross > wharton in athletics?

I surely hope that Ross has better athletes. Its at a huge state school.
