I've applied to Wharton ED but I know that it's crazy competitive and am betting i get a defferal. . .so if i get deffered from wharton is it possible that I would be accepted to UPenn and then just attend the school of arts and science? I couldn't bring myself to not at least try for wharton since it's my dream school but now as the day of judgement draws nearer I'm beginning to wonder if i would have been better off simply applying to the easier school (even if it is still highly selective). Also, if I'm deffered and reapply for RD can I/should I switch from wharton to Penn?

What are your stats?

If you get “deffered” from ED you can’t apply again through RD. Being deferred means you didn’t get accepted from the ED pool but your application will be viewed again among with the RD applicants’. So if you get a deferral just wait until the RD results are released… then you’ll know if you got in or not. Also if you get deferred from ED then get admitted through RD you do not have to attend that school (in other words, only if you get accepted through ED is it a must for you to go to that school).

Bottom line: no, you can’t switch colleges (Wharton to CAS in your case) once you have submitted your app.

i was actually under the impression that you can call up admissions if you’re deferred and ask to change the school that you’ll be considered for during the regular pool

but there would be no re-application; they’d just move your application from one pile to another

to be sure, call and ask - if you’re deferred

Thanks guys. . .I guess I should have been more specific. I knew that being deffered means your app is just resubmitted into the RD pool but I was asking something along the lines of what tenebrousfire was referring to where I could still get it switched (I knew that if I was by the grace of god to be accepted that I wouldn’t be able to change but I was simply wondering if when my app goes to the RD pool if i could do anything to switch the school for which i was applying to hopefully improve my chances at at least getting into one of Penns colleges). Regardless, I thank you all for your input

Wharton should secede from UPenn.
Sorry, I still have that article in my head
.

what article?

Penn’s College doesn’t exist as a safety net for Wharton rejects. It exists as an arts & sciences school for people who want arts & sciences.

Wharton applicants must really prove why they want to be in a business school. The selectivity also exists due to sheer numbers. There’s only 500 total students a year including athletes that are given the option of which school at Penn they would like to be in.
