I live in NY and I take the regents in june. I am a junior now and so far I haven't done great on my regents. However, I did very well in the class. Like for geometry I had a 98 all year but only and 85 on the regents. Do they even look at regents scores? and how much will it hurt to have bad scores?

85 IS considered mastery level on the Regents.

I know that some SUNYs will use Regents scores for placements. For instance, my D placed into a higher level of history because she had over an 85 on the USH Regents. Likewise, you can place higher in foreign language based on your Regents grades. Some programs have minimum Regents cutoffs for entry.

I think though that for admissions, the schools put more emphasis on the final grade and GPA than the regents. I would advise you, however, to look at the school’s websites or contact the admissions departments.

They DO see your regents grades, all of them, on the self-reported transcript. I do not know much they are weighed, however.

That’d be awesome if you got credit because I got a 99 on US History and a 100 on Spanish

I don’t think I was clear enough. You don’t get credit, per se, but you may be able to waive out of certain courses. For instance, at some schools, if you have taken 3 years of a foreign language AND passed the Regents with 85+, you may have completed your FL gen ed requirements. At Stony Brook, my reading of the requirement was that if you passed the FL Regents with a 75 - 84, you could go into the second level. This is my son’s situation - he did NO HW in his 3rd year FL class but passed the Regents in that category while failing the course. As for the USH Regents, my D’s school (and a number of other schools) will let you take a higher level course if you get over an 85. The only way to get credit is through AP, IB or CLEP (if the school takes it) unless the school offers challenge or placement exams and those usually just give you a waiver, not credits. The end result is not the same - you don’t have to take the lower level course but you don’t get credit for it so you still need to fill that credit count, you can just do it with higher level courses.

oh okay, thanks! I must’ve misunderstood lol

Poop that Japanese has no Regents (Yes LOTE same thing whatever) and that I’ll be majoring in it as well so there’s no waiving the language :P

I was planning on taking the Polish regents before I even entered high school, and then stupid New York phased it out, so I had to take a language in high school :(

Bing allows half the requirement for FL to be completed with 3 years of language and 85+ on the Regents. You would need an extra year of language to complete the full requirement before college. The Pluralism requirement also uses the Regents exam in US history to give you more freedom to take classes (If you did not get the requisite score/GPA for OOS, you will need to take more classes OR possible certain specific classes to fulfill the P req).
