What AP classes should I be taking in order to get into an accelerated medical program.

Hello, I am a current sophomore and am deciding on what AP courses I should be taking for next year. I have an interest in medicine and want to pursue a profession in that job area. I plan on enrolling into an accelerated medical program, without going trough pre-med. However, I am a bit confused on the AP classes I should be taking. This the order of AP’s I plan on taking:

Junior Year:

  • AP Biology
  • AP Chemistry
  • AP English Language

Senior Year:

  • AP Physics 1
  • AP Psychology
  • AP Calculus AB

This is the course selection that I have planned out. Any improvements or opinions on what could be changed, would be really appreciated.

Thank You

@daniyal0506 I think that both AP bio and AP chem are extremely useful if you want to pursue medicine in the future. Your junior load looks pretty heavy, but having some degree of challenge is good for colleges to see. To lighten the load, I would recommend a few books. For chemistry, I used Princeton and online free response questions to prepare. The frqs were really helpful because they were done by the CB. Bio was a bit tough, but I recommend getting a Princeton. I also used Fiveable online prep which had live review sessions every week starting at the beginning of the year concurrently with my biology class. That really helped solidify the concepts and their trivia was pretty good. In senior year, I think you have all your bases covered, especially for the pre-med track. You would’ve taken all AP sciences offered, including psych. I think fiveable also offers psych, but I personally didn’t sign up for that course. I’m sure it’s probably really solid just based off of their biology course. Make sure, however, that you’re also doing a project or research outside of school as well as these courses to show your interests. I think the times at which you are taking the respective APs is a bit tough but it’s completely doable.

Good luck!

I would not take bio and chem in the same year. Push one off to senior year. It’s easier to double up in science with physics.

Be sure you also get in 4 years of foreign language.

Biology and Chemistry do complement one another where the material in one class can help with the other course.

My twins are taking AP Bio and Ap chem in junior year along with AP history and AP Lang, and they are doing well… if you are a hard worker… you can manage it… I competely agree wirh @scubadive
