What AP Summer Work Do You Have To Do?

AP English Literature:
Read:
The Turn of the Screw
Cry, The Beloved Country
All The Kings Men
(we don’t have to do any writing or notes on them, just read thank god)

Then we have to read this kind of textbook thing called Story and Structure which has 9 sections technically describing elements of literature followed by short stories. We don’t have to read any short stories but we have to do a 1 page typed outline on each of the 9 sections.

AP Gov- 1st we have to write a one page essay on what we think the informal qualifications to be president of the US are(education, experience, etc.) Then we have to find an article about and write a one page paper summarizing their candidacy of EVERY single republican AND third party candidate for president in 2012. At the end we have to write a one page essay describing who we think deserves to win their party’s nomination and why.

AP Calc AB-NOTHING =]

AP english is pretty easy(easier than I was expecting) and AP gov is just a ton of work but it’s not hard work per say, it’s just there can be an unlimited amount of candidates and many might not declare until later this summer so we may have to do most of our work right near the end, I start school mid August.

some of this AP bio stuff seems really not that much to me
Last year we had to:
Do a 20 page busy work packet on being an active studier.
Make Flashcards for 210 greek and latin root words and study them for a quiz on the first day of school (she gave us one the first day of every quarter, so we had to study them all year)
Read and take notes on the first 5 chapters of our textbook and study for a test on the first day of school. (yes she gave us a separate quiz and test both on the first day)
Make a Concept Map over the first 3 chapters of the book.

Courses:

AP Lang
AP Bio
AP Calc AB
AP Enviro
APUSH
IB Philosophy
ToK
IB Chinese (and I’m not exactly a native speaker)

Assigned work
AP Lang: read Essays that Worked For College Applications - by Curry

APUSH: read I Wish I’d Been There – by Byron Hollinshead

IB Philosophy: read The Diary of a Dissident - by Alan Mowbray - talk about NARCISSISM - my teacher is asking me to read a book he wrote! And now I can’t use Sparknotes :frowning: …

Self-assigned work

Prepare for all AP courses listed above. By the end of summer, I want to be able to take a practice AP exam for each subject and get a 5 on each practice exam.

Learn Chinese. I can’t read or write at all, but I can speak it (barely at best).

Finish AP Enviro on Florida Virtual School before school starts. It’s a ton of work, actually.

AP Literature - Read Candide, The Metamorphosis and Other Stories,Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Replay, and Moby-Dick

AP Calc BC - Teaching myself Calculus AB(op)

AP Bio- Teach myself first couple chapters(op)

AP Gov- Nothing

^If you’re going to do that, why bother taking the class?

^ I’m just a really slow learner, I like to remember EVERYTHING. If I rush through each chapter(probably will during the year) I won’t be able to remember half of the information for the AP test.

But you’ll probably forget most of what you learned in the summer after 9 months.

If I really can cover a unit, usually I don’t forget. I had this happen to me when I took APUSH

LOL, sorry. I was actually talking to IceQube, who says he wants to be able to get 5’s on practice test by the end of summer. Sorry.

AP English lang and comp:
Read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, Cannery Row by John Steinbeck and an essay, Mother Tongue by Amy Tan. Annotate all of these, and write an essay describing the intentions of the authors and how they convey their messages. Also, I have to assess a poetry database and have conversations with friends over email discussing certain poems.
APUSH:
Read 5 chapters in textbook, analyze elements of american culture, and memorize all of the presidents, vice presidents, their political party and date of terms served.

AP Psych:
Conduct two interviews and provide deep analysis of motives and personality.

Gonna be a blast…

For AP Lit., read and do dialectical journal entries on the following books:
-Heart of Darkness
-Pride and Prejudice
-The Importance of Being Earnest

I speculate that we will have winter homework as well, because our assignments are due on the first day of school, yet we don’t have the class until 2nd semester.

OMG ebriscoe are you from Newtown High School in CT???

your AP lang and APUSH assignments are pretty much exactly the same as what they were last year.

If that’s the case, then you never really learned anything. And he will be in the classes, going over the material again…

No, it’s the other way around. I’m studying because I’m taking the class. I wish to be a contender, not a pretender. I’m going to earn all As next school year. No more Cs … lol :(.

Well, I’ll be in the class, going over the material again. That’ll reinforce my understanding.

Plus, I don’t easily forget stuff, especially if I have a liking for the material. I actually find studying fun. Classical music + studying = bliss.

56 days left until school starts … I better get off CC and start studying again … :p.

completely forgot about all summer work. I have sooooo much to do and school starts a little earlier this year…well here’s what I have to do

AP bio-read, take notes on, and answer questions from a packet she gave us on the first 5 chapters

AP physics B-read first 3 chapters and do a packet with around 100 questions. he said it takes on average around 10-15 hours to complete for those who haven’t taken physics before. luckily i took honors last year :)

AP English lit-there are 3 books we have to read (can’t remember them right now) and annotate all 3 and make a quote journal with 15 quotes for one of our choosing

AP calc BC-try to review everything we learned from precal

AP spanish-try not to forget spanish.
Well I guess I get to pull an all-nighter the night before school :)

@stewta4 and @ebriscoe - I’m from Newtown too!! @stewa4: If you’re from Newtown, why does your profile say that you’re from East Lansing, MI?

Hahaha yeah I am actually! That’s so funny omg, good eye!

Sent from my PC36100 using CC App

AP Physics B

Write out equations sheet in words, which essentially equates hours of Googling Greek letters.
Make a binder of released FRQs from CB website. This binder is huge, and I think I just killed a tree.

AP Bio: Read a chapter out of my bio book, write a letter, take a collection of photos of bio topics.

AP Spanish Lit: Do analysis on three stories

AP US History: Read a chapter, fill in a table, colour in a map.

Ahhh, summer homework. Surprisingly, I have less AP work for senior year than junior year, and I’m taking more AP classes.

AP English Lit: Read Heart of Darkness and Dante’s Inferno, then do a project on them, read/analyze 20 poems

AP Gov: Same as the English assignment. Yay!

AP Biology: None, but one year they had to read a book called “Your Inner Fish.” Weird.

AP Calc BC: Math problem packet. And I suppose I should re-study the unit circle.

AP Physics C: None! :)

I was going to take AP Psych instead of AP Bio, but AP Bio didn’t have an assignment and Psych did, so…
