Wiki: Computer engineers are engineers who have obtained knowledge in both electrical engineering and computer science so they can engineer both hardware and software of a computer.

However when I searched for Apple jobs and Google jobs there are 0 search results when I typed computer engineer.

I cannot imagine someone who can split into two and design the A5X chip for apple while making the Mac OS X Lion. So what how exactly are computer engineers and what do they do?

Thank you and I appreciate that!

I don’t understand why you posted this on the stanford page. But a computer engineer can vary in what they do. There are two main aspects to computers, software and hardware. The A5X chip is a piece of hardware, while OS X Lion is software. Software is made by computer programmers, usually I think Computer Science majors. While hardware is made by computer hardware engineers. The software is just code while the hardware is where you actually design the products.

Also for jobs the computer engineering field is wide open. In America companies are struggling to find qualified people to work. For example my dad wanted to hire a guy for his company and of course he got applications but only a handful actually knew anything needed for the job. So if you are good at what you do in this field you will get a job.

Hope this helps
