I'm going to visit NU, UofC and Oberlin in a couple weeks, and will be choosing from those three colleges. (I have no idea which one I want most right now). Any current UoC students, parents or alum: what are the things on campus that will appeal to me most? What should I make sure I see? Im going for the "April Program" so the talks with admisisons people and all the standard fare are on the agenda, but what Else should I do?

Make sure you go to the Seminay Co-op Bookstore and the Oriental Institute. My two favorite places.

edit: Seminary not Seminay.

The Oriental Institute, Harper Library (sorry if this isn't the exact name, it's the library in the building where the admissions office used to be and it's quite beautiful), 57th Street Books.

opposite cobb hall, there's this circular thing. stand in the middle of the circle and say something - your words echo off the building and produce quite a cool effect.

i second the above posters, the seminary coop is an amazing bookstore and a reader's paradise. the oriental institute is neat too.i don't have any other specific recommendations, but i suggest you just wander around the quads and see if chicago feels like home.

I agree with everything that's been said.

Walk by Botany Pond. Very pretty spot. Also grab a schedule for Doc films and see what's playing.

the botany pond was kind of gross last week when i visited. all the surrounding plants are dead right now, and so are the goldfish. although, during summertime, it is quite lovely.

There is this absolutely adorable bookstore in one of the hum bulidings. Very quaint. I'm sure they will point it out to you if you ask. The admissions people told us (my father and I) that it was the new "best" bookshop. It made me fall in love with the school all over again. (BUt then again I am a huge bookworm...)

thanks all, ill be sure to look in to all of those. keep it coming

If you're there on a Wednesday, try to procure a $1 milkshake from the Reynolds Club.
