I'm currently a freshman @ NYU Stern with a GPA of 3.2. I am inquiring about my chances @ lower Ivys or other equivalent schools. I'm not sure I want to specify myself to a business major, so I would most likely be applying under an econ major.

If it helps I have about 2 semesters of prior college credit at local universities/community colleges all with a cum gpa of about 3.75

i don't think there's anything wrong with the GPA, particularly... it may not be ivy league level, but stern is a really good school. it's better to have a 3.2 from stern than from a community college.

Although no one can predict your likely success based on stats alone, I agree that you want to get that GPA up up up - over 3.5 is what you need to make your desired schools anything other than a reachy-reach (stats-wise).

i have a 3.6 at cornell first semester, and near a 3.9 for my mid-term and don't feel at all good about my chances at penn and columbia and brown

um....i actually spoke to a Penn admissions counselor back a few months ago, he told me the average GPA for them was a 3.7 (but this is when I asked him this ?), he first said that a 3.6 at cornell was fantastic, that cornell was a peer school...but still its below their median gpa, but i mean, i am hoping that the ppl they take from CCs and other places are the ppl getting the 3.8s and 4.0s, some ppl have to be below a 3.7
