I’m a junior at a fairly large public high school. We have a famous music program, which I’ve been a part of for every year of my high school career, and we’re fairly good at athletics, but not much else.
GPA: 3.97/4 (weighted)
ACT: 35 (first try)
Junior Year Classes: AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Gov, AP English language, AP Chemistry, top-level band, Independent study in Latin
Senior Year Classes (projected): AP Calculus, AP Physics, Humanities (accelerated/honors), top level band, advanced Latin at the University of Michigan
EC: 9 years of trumpet, 4 years of soccer, member of school economics club, intending to start a debate club at my school next year-- not all that much
Summers: Last summer I worked in my home town and travelled around Turkey with my dad
This summer I’m enrolled in a program called SYA in Italy for 5 weeks where I’ll be doing intensive Latin, along with Italian
I feel like my resumé is somewhat unremarkable, so I’m considering applying to be a Senate Page for the spring session of next year-- I would have applied for the fall session but I stupidly missed the deadline.
If anybody has any suggestions for how I could develop a more eye-catching portfolio, that would be greatly appreciated. My interests mostly lie in Classics and Government/ Politics. I’m about to finish my junior year, so any suggestions would have to be somewhat short term.
Thanks a lot everyone!
a 35 on the act first try! Try to take it again and see if you can get a 36! I bet you can
Please don’t follow @theoverseer 's advice. It wouldn’t make a big difference.
I would be really persistent about contacting that senator. A friend of mine got an internship just by literally calling her rep constantly.
But that 36! It’s probably not that big of a deal, just think it would be great if you got the last 10 miles to 1000 miles
990 miles < 1000 miles
But a 35 is still very good! I would say you have a fair chance to get into Princeton, but be aware people like you and even better will be applying So you need to make yourself stand out.
Good luck
Hello, I think your academics are very impressive, and are definitely on par with what these schools are looking for. I would not recommend that you take the ACT again since your current score is already very good. Like you said, besides the activities you are involved in at school, your resume is still rather unremarkable. Thus, if I had any advice for you, it would be to get more involved in your community and participate in more extracurricular activities that pertain to your area of interest. But I still think you definitely have a good chance of getting into Princeton, especially if you follow these tips and apply early! Good luck.

@Studious99 I would agree. I’m not sure what qualifies the @overseer to make these kinds of recommendations? Retake the ACT and try for a 36 when you already have a 35??? that’s absurd.
I don’t know what your GPA of 3.97/4 (weighted) actually means. Different schools compute this so differently that this could mean mostly 100s but a few 97’s, or it could mean mostly 90’s with a few 80’s. Where we live a 97 is a 3.7, but at some schools a 90 is a 4.0.
Do you have an unweighted GPA, or can you explain what sort of grades produce this GPA?
