I am currently attending an accredited community college. I have a 4.0 GPA, I am a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa. I am the president of the Toastmasters club. I am part of the honors institute at my college. I have all the prerequisites done, and I am taking a class that is not required but they encourage it on their website. I would be transferring as a Junior. I hope to complete an internship related to finance/accounting for either a small time brokerage company or a cruise line during the current summer.

As a side note, my high school record was as follows: I had a 3.8 GPA. I was part of a few EC's but no leadership roles. I graduated with honors. During my senior year I completed an internship at a law firm have responsibilities such as researching property laws, the economy and completing reports on financial issues.

I plan on receiving letters of recommendation from the Dean of Business at my current college, as well as from a few professors. I already have one letter of recommendation from my employer when I completed the internship at the law firm.

Basically what are my chances of being accepted at this school?

Pretty low (from what I’ve heard on campus, it’s highly competitive to transfer into as a junior from outside).

WongTongTong, what could I do to increase my chances?

I think it is a worth a try especially if you can put the time into the essays and put honest responses.

nah I disagree with these posters. i think if you really explain well what Cornell AEM can do for you and how it can help, you have a good chance of getting in. also do a internship or something over the summer. itll probs help

I don’t agree with WongTongTong at all. It is competitive but I think your chances are pretty good. I’m also planning on applying for transfer to Cornell AEM and have been gathering information about this for quite some time now. Although the average GPA for transfers into this program is not posted anywhere (at least that I’ve seen) it seems to be about 3.75-3.9 and your GPA is above that. Cornell also really cares about parallel curriculum, particularly making sure you have those Biology credits completed. But even those aren’t required. You have strong grades and good EC’s. I’d say keep doing well and you should have a very realistic shot.

Not to mention, as far as transferring into a top business program as a Junior, Cornell is actually one of the most transfer friendly out there. So I don’t think WongTongTong has any idea what he’s talking about.

Daddyk64 thanks for that response!

By the way, when do you plan on transferring?

It’s a crapshoot honestly i had similar stats with good recs, work experience and good Ec’s and was rejected its getting more competitive i would at least try but your chances aren’t really good or bad it all depends on the quality of applicants applying when you apply

What’s your ACT/SAT score?

My plan is to apply for transfer for Fall 2013. I am currently a sophomore at The University of Iowa. Should have a GPA in the high 3.8s/3.9 when I apply. I will have completed all the prerequisites, including the recommended ones; two semesters of Biology, a semester of Chemistry, and several courses that fit the humanities section. I have solid EC’s (student senator, on several committees, started my own culture club) and good work experience (two professional paid internships). My high school grades weren’t too good 3.5 weighted GPA and 30 ACT. I’m kind of in the same boat as you in the sense that I know I’m going to be a competitive applicant but I’m trying to find if there is anything I can do to to make myself stand out and give me the edge.

If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it!

Nice!

To update everyone, I now have an accounting internship under my belt. Its a boutique firm, not like the big4 or something of that magnitude, but it still is an internship and experience. I hope this, along with the above internship I already mentioned it will stand out.

@thefuture @daddyk64 I am in a similar situation as you two. I’m going into the finance world and Cornell AEM is on my list to transfer for Fall '13.

Daddyk64 is right in saying Cornell is very “transfer friendly” compared to other Ivys. Good luck to both of you!
