Good evening! I am currently a junior and I would like to know my chances at Florida colleges like UCF, UF, FSU, etc. (:
Here are my stats:
Major: Undecided as of now, Hopefully Nursing
GPA:
Unweighted: 3.5 UW
(Hoping to get to a 3.6 by the end of this semester)
Weighted:
4.35 W
(Hoping to get to a 4.4 )
Core GPA : I have no idea how to calculate this, so I’m guessing maybe a 3.7-3.8 range. I’m not sure.
Classes:
Freshman year- 3 Honors, 1 AP (Human Geo)
Sophomore: 3 Honors, 1 AP (AP World)
Junior: 3 Honors, 2 AP (AP Bio, APUSH)
Senior year: 4 Honors, 3 AP (AP Stats, AP Psych, AP Econ)
I have so many honors courses because of my magnet program which designated them in the school of Florida as honors courses.
By the end of senior year I’ll have 7 AP’s, 13 honors.
SAT: 1220/1600 (CR: 670, 550 M. Took another one hoping better score soon.)
ACT: 24C ( 30 R, 25 E, 19 M, 23 SC) Sucks, I know but also my first test. I’ve bought multiple test prep books and a tutor program so that hopefully my score will increase for the next ACT, which is the test I prefer.
I’m in a competitive magnet school, I’m currently in the top 12% but I’m working my way up to top 10% of my class.

Chances?
Review the “2016 SUS Admissions Tour MATRIX”, it’s option one (Matrix).
http://www.flbog.edu/board/office/asa/admissionstour.php
It will list the middle 50% stats for accepted students to each of the 12 Florida public universities. It also breaks it down by Fall vs Summer admits (at many schools, it’s less selective if you apply to start school in Summer B vs the Fall).
Good Luck!
I think you’re doing great bud! Considering the colleges won’t see your senior grades for admission purposes, make sure to improve that unweighted GPA as much as you can in the final stretch. Your senior year, I would prioritize getting a 1300+ or 28+ on the either of the standardized tests and you should be golden. Best of luck!
Bump
That’s fantastic, given your current situation. If you really want a 85%+ shot in for schools like UF, I’d get that ACT to 28+ or the SAT to ~1300+ (pick the one test you’re more comfortable with and give it your all).
Also, side note: on your essay, you can talk about the hardships your family has suffered, but don’t get too negative or too personal – this could actually work against you.
Best of luck!!
