what are my chances at JMU?

My school does not do weighted GPA’s so I have a 2.71 cumulative gpa. I had a pretty bad sophomore year (2.21) but showed major improvement to my junior year (2.87). I take 5-6 IB courses and am a 3 sport varsity athlete. I also took a community service trip during my sophomore year to costa rica (idk if that helps). I currently dont have SAT scores as they dont come in for another few days. Is this a total reach for me?

I would say it is a reach for you because that GPA is really hurtful unless you could back it up with an explanation of circumstance that you had to face during your Sophomore Year. Try working really hard for your SAT’s! Good Luck my friend!

ibs are hard but continue to get a better gpa chance me back http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/2002399-chance-me-p1.html?new=1

JMU is relatively competitive, you are almost definitely not getting in with a sub-3.0 GPA. The IB’s won’t make up for it.

^ again your GPA will make admission difficult. Try to get your test scores to 1200+sat and 27+act if you can. Getting a higher than average test score will obviously make you more competitive and may help them forgive (but not forget) a lower GPA. Keep doing sports, start volunteering and/or working, and keep your grades up.

Apply to lots of safeties and CC as back ups.

^ OP would need like a 1400 or 1500 out of 1600 to have even a slight chance. 1200 is around the average for JMU these days.

Wow, seems like all schools have gotten crazy competitive lately… Good luck OP
