What are my chances at Stanford?

I am a high school junior and have been reading posts on College Confidential for the last six months or so, but, until now, have been too afraid to post anything myself. Finally, I've decided to post so I'm wondering what people think of my chances and, especially, how I can improve them.

I'm writing an article this year for national financial publication on statistical analysis of financial risk at Kenrmar this summer with a John Hopkins professor. Hoping to get recommendation from the John Hopkins professor.

I don't think there is anything else you can do, you have done it all. I would be amazed if they reject you. You have some of the best standardized test scores I have ever seen.

Your EC's are lacking compared to your scores, but that is okay.

You'll get in SCEA.

a PERFECT SAT!? wow man that's remarkable. stanford is also my dream school too, how can you get a perfect SAT tho? (i haven't taken it yet i'm grade 9)

he might be bSing

no i'm not bsing at all

13 posts and you've been on this site for 6 months???? dude you're lying. plus i saw your join date: 6/7/04...i think thats more 1 month ago. nice try but no. also u got a 5 on ap english but didnt take eng lit sat2 and you did decent on sat2 bio(didnt precise which bio) but didnt take ap bio? what's ap english 12? even better.. cum laude...thats a latin award and you didnt take ap latin? bizarre. lastly, u dont think you'll make national merit finalist with a 240 psat score (if u actually had that score, you'd assume you'd made it? am i right?
if you want to bs your resume actually try to make it realistic.

^ Dude, chill out. He said he's been READING posts on CC for six months. He probably just got an account about a month ago, and now he's finally posting. And what's wrong with not taking the Lit SAT II? He's already got enough good SAT II scores. Also, plenty of people take the SAT II Bio without taking the AP course. Many people at my school take it after freshman-year Honors Bio. As for cum laude, that's an academic distinction award (like top 10%). It has nothing to do with taking Latin.

As for the OP's chances, I think they're great. Nothing's guaranteed, but your credentials are among the better ones I've seen. I'm impressed that you got to work at a hedge fund. Many college students would be envious.

cum laude is a university/college award...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cum_laude

Many high schools have cum laude as well. I'm on cum laude at my own school. Go here: http://www.cumlaudesociety.org/ That lists the high schools that offer it.

then why didnt he take the ap latin test?

"The presence of a Cum Laude chapter at a secondary school is an indication that superior scholastic achievement is honored. From an induction ceremony, which can range from a formal, separate event to a segment of an awards day, to service projects, scholarly writing or other scholastic activities, individual chapters of Cum Laude create programs appropriate for their own campus that benefit the larger community as well. In several schools younger students are commended by Cum Laude, encouraging them in their scholastic pursuits, while in others visiting scholars are presented by the chapter membership for the edification of all."

AP Latin has nothing to do with Cum Laude.

Jessgill, are u serioous about a perfect score on the NEW SAT???

yup, i got a 2400

That's AWESOME; in terms of sheer numbers, you seem to be a VERY promising candidate (especially if u are applying ED)

As for your extracurricular activities, i think your list says a lot about u (but always remeber quality over quantity). Therefore, i advise u to list the activities u consider most important or u were involved in frequently and consistently.

In addition, be sure to get strong recommendations that don't just praise u but also reveal things about (such as significant growth in character). Furthermore, write an impressive essay that does not have to be unique but simply excellent (be sure that it is your own work).

With all those credentials, i think u will definitely be guaranteed a position in the class of 2010.

Good Luck
Hope that helps

I think you'll definitely get into Stanford. Just don't think that your working at a hedge fund is gonna be the strongest point on your application. They'll probably just assume (espcially since you're from a wealthy NY suburb) that your dad pulled some strings and got you the job.

how are you so smart? lol, dont answer that

You should self-study the BC calc topics. I learned them independently with relitively little studying, just doing sections as we skipped them in class and reviewing the bulk of it while we were practicing for the AP test in class. If you have the AB portion down, BC is a breeze.

jonathan, i think it's quite sad that you would actually look "cum laude" up on wikipedia just cause you're jealous of the guy's scores and stats. Cum laude means "with honors", and at my high school it designates everyone in the top 10%. This isn't the same thing as what jessgill was talking about but whatever.
Apply SCEA and I'd put money on you to get in.
