You should have auto acceptance to A&M. Depending on your major choice UT may be out of reach
@JackM82 I thought A&M auto admission was at top 10% not 25%.
I think its Top 10% auto admitted and top 25% auto admitted as long as they have an ACT of 30
What are the breakdown of your ACT scores? Are you in state or out of state? What Major are you applying? UT is very attached to your rank and the lower your rank will decrease your chances unless your Personal Achievement Index score makes up for it. Outside of auto admit top 7%, it is very competitive for holistic applicants. At UT and A&M, some majors are highly competitive. For example, at UT, Cockrell & McCombs are a reach,(but maybe a chance in the college of Liberal Arts) At A&M, Look is a reach and Mays is as well if you are a review applicant.
If you subscores on ACT are high enough with a composite score of at least 30 with at least: 27 Math and 27 English, you could be an academic admit, which if you want any major other than engineering (all engineering undergo holistic review for the program after gaining admission to the university), it is rolling admissions so you are admitted to the major as soon as you are admitted to the university. If your subscores do not meet the minimum, then you would be a holistic review candidate and that lessens your chances somewhat, as Mays usually fills quickly with auto/academic admits and there are few spots left for the review candidates.
If you are out of state, for UT, your chances are even less and as well as A&M if you are not an academic admit.
If you qualify for A&M academic admit, applications open July 1 this year and majors will fill earlier than years past. When you get your acceptance also affects your housing selection timing.
I know a top 20% who had a 32 ACT who was Blinn teamed so just be prepared for that possibility.
@carachel2 Did that student not have the minimum scores on the ACT?
@Thelma2 --the student absolutely had the minimum scores on the ACT.
I think UT would be doubtful for you, based on my nephew’s experience. He was top 15% and didn’t get in, even with amazing ECs (Eagle Scout, one of the top trumpet players in the state, etc.). He appealed without success.
@carachel2 How did that happen? That student should have been academic full admission to the university. If the student was top 25% and had a 30 ACT with minimum scores, how did they get Blinn Team? What am I missing?
@Thelma2
The person in question was probably an engineering student.
Since academic admit (in that person’s case) would have allowed them to get into college station (but not necessarily engineering), they could have been offered blinn team or a transfer of major, in which case they probably chose blinn team.
