im looking at UVA(big reach),NYU Stern, carnegie mellon,Miami(OH), villanova, wake forest, fordham, and bentley (schools are in order of how likely i think i am to get in.....first 3 are reaches, adn the rest are(i think) matches)

Most likely I'll be majoring in finance.

Also, any other good finance schools that you can recomend would be very much appreciated.(also some more safeties would be great)

im a senior from va applying ed to uva right now but
im the editor of my school paper
went on a people to people trip to australia
have a 3.71 UW gpa
2040 on sat

i don't think uva is as big a reach for you as you claim. if you can get your UW gpa closer to 4 and sats over 2200 you'll have a good chance. admissions at uva is very holistic--you need to be well rounded, write strong unique essays, and have strong recommendations. the one thing you might lack is some kind of leadership position within your ECs.

UVA is a reach. Not a super-you're-dumb-for-applying reach, but a somewhat-sizeable-but-you-have-a-chance reach. They're really tough on OOS, as you probably know.

Stern - somewhat of a reach.

Carnegie Mellon - Match.

Miami of Ohio - Safety.

Villanova - Safety.

Wake Forest - Safe Match.

Fordham - Safety.

Bentley - Safety.

Sounds to me like you have enough safeties...you just need more matches.

*funny how similar you are to me

good luck*

what year did you go to Australia?i went back in.....2002 i believe

If you have a chance, drop me a PM if you get into UVA.....just so i can see what my chances are (obviously if you get in, it doesnt mean i have a good chance, due to you being OOS and other factors, but itd give me a little more hope)

thanks for the input..... is carnegie mellon really a match? From what ive seen its a really good business school. Could you recomend some more matches? I can't say i know of many good business schools(I in fact really only looked up some of the above schools maybe a week ago).

I would say Villanova is a bit of a reach. Villanova is newly in love with diverse ec's and community service. You do not really have the ec's there looking for, and your grades/sats won't do it for you at Nova.
