What are my chances at these UC's?

Ucd: 30-45%, ucsb:40-50%, uci:40-60%, ucsc: 100%, I may be wrong though

UCSC is that easy to get into? Im trying for UCD and UCI. And those stats are provided I have the exact stats as above? if i bring up my SAT to 1800-2000, my chances will be higher?

Can anyone justify his percents? I’m super nervous. But I really appreciate your inputs SamSaulsbury

Ucsc has a 62% acceptance rate, it’s the safety school of 3.0s, you can get in easy. I hope you dont hate the smell of pot though. an 1800 would definitely raise your chances, and a 2000 would make irvine and sd easily possible

Thanks for the input. Let’s just hope my last SAT did the job…

“@SamSaulsbury You’re saying that my chances into Irvine/Davis/SB/SC/I/M are high? Can you give me a rough percentage?”

Use the UC Statfinder link I posted in post #2. It will give you the admit rate percentages of all the UCs.

@jshain Can you teach me how to look up the percentages exactly? It doesn’t seem to show years 10-11?

Bump it up. I’m looking through my transcript, and I think there’s an error with my GPA. I’m gonna talk to my counselor about it on Tuesday. My GPA is actually higher than what it says on my GPA… phew!.. A little higher, but not MUCH higher, maybe 1 or 2 points up.

Stong94. Even you do raise your SAT I to 1800-2000, UCLA and UCB will still be reaches. The average UW GPA for those schools is around 3.8 and SAT around 2100. Now if you were to get a score pretty close to 2000 (1950+), then you may have a chance at Berkeley and LA is you write strong essays and get a little lucky. A score of 1800-2000 will give you a realistic chance at the mid-tier UC’s (Irvine, Santa Barbara, and Davis) and maybe UCSD.

If you got an SAT of 1900, here are what I think your percentages would be:
UCB: 5-15%
UCLA: 10-20%
UCSD: 25-35%
UCI: 30-45%
UCSB: 30-45%
UCD: 30-45%
UCSC: 50-60%
UCR: 50-60%
UCM: 75-85%

@jyang94 Thanks for the input. So basically, if I have roughly the same SAT, I’m pretty screwed. The percentages you gave me would be pretty much halved I assume?

And for UC, what GPA do they look at? 9-12 W? 10-12 Weighted? 10-12 UW? 10-11 AG classes w/ 8 semester AP/H?

I guess I really need that amazing SAT.

Sorry stong94, I just logged back in and see you had a question that jyang94 did a good job of answering for you. I think your chances at UCR may be a little higher than that-- maybe 60-75%. I’m only guessing, though. All the other numbers look good.

@jshain Thanks for the input. So is 45-50% considered high? It’s pretty much a 50/50 chance huh… The higher SAT/the higher I can have my GPA, the greater those percentages are?

The percentages definitely go up when your stats go up. That’s true for most schools. But also remember, there are other factors as well that will be taken into consideration when your application is reviewed: ECs, leadership, CS/volunteering, job(s), essays, etc. etc.

Edit: UCs don’t want or need recommendations

@jshain With my resume as shown on P1, with a higher SAT (let’s say 1800-2000) and slightly higher GPA (3.0 UW 10-11/3.48 W 10-11), do you think I could get into at least a mid tier school like Irvine?

You have a shot at UCI for sure, but it would still be a close call. Good luck getting in there. Just had dinner last night with one of their physics professors.

Thank you for your inputs. Anyone else wanna throw some percentages at me? I’ll update this topic once my SAT score is finalized within the next week or two.

UC’s have a their own GPA known as the UC GPA. This includes all academic classes from 10-12 grade and up to 8 weighted classes. For example, if you took 10 weighted classes, then only 8 of them would count as 5.0 and the other two as 4.0.

Also note that all AP classes count as weighted as well as some honors classes (for example at my school, Chemistry Honors, English 3 Honors, and Pre-Calculus Honors are weighted classes even though they aren’t AP). To check if your school has any weighted classes that aren’t AP, check on the UC website.

@jyang94 So basically, my 10-12 GPA is actually lowered than it is…? Whoa… this sucks haha.

Well that depends on how many weighted classes you took. But also keep in mind that this affects all students’ GPA, not just your’s.

Well… my final SAT comes out in on Thursday. Bump it up cause I’ll need some last chances.
