Please let me know my chances! I'm really scared for my SAT and GPA. How much will that weigh compared to my extracurricular?

Your UC list is too ambitious and it is possible you will not get into any of them based on your stats. Your resume is solid, but will not offset less than stellar stats at the most selective UCs. You really need to spend the additional $60 application fee per school and apply to some of the less selective UCs, as well as, some of the CSUs that you may be interested in, with the exception of Cal Poly SLO. Good luck to you. You should also open the link below, click on “Custom Tables”, answer some questions, and enter up to 3 “mean characteristics” at a time to see what the admit percentages are for someone with your profile:

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/)

UCB, UCLA, and UCSD will all be reaches for you. UCI and UCD are a high match but there is no guarantee that you will get accepted based on your GPA and SAT’s. As mentioned above, you should probably consider some other UC’s such as Santa Barbara or Riverside.

Also your extracurricular activities are generic for the thousands of other Asian students applying to UC’s (martial arts, badminton, and piano), so don’t rely too much on these activities.

You may also want to calculate your UC GPA and compare with the schools averages to get a better idea of your chances.

Probably no chance. Unless one of those schools falls in love with your martial arts experience, you’re out of luck. GPA <3.00 is very poor, and a 1680 SAT is WELL below the averages for most any UC.

0.1% at LA, UCB, SD
1% at D, I

I know this sounds harsh, but UCs are very stat driven, and ECs/essays can only do so much for you when your stats are so lacking.

Thanks for the input there above guys. And just curious, my stats are low and I understand that, but what if I pull out a 1800-2000 on the SAT I just took. How much more would that increase my chances?

Don’t listen to that guy, he’s right you probably can’t get into Berkeley or LA, but the ucs really aren’t that stat driven, I have a friend who got into cal on a 3.3 and an 1800 because of his ecs, you have a solid chance at irvine, and a mid-low (better than 1%) chance at ucsd, ucD

I hate to say it, but you may not even be able to apply to the UC system. You need a minimum 3.0 gpa in state UC weighting or a minimum 3.4 gpa out of state to apply to a UC. Anything below that you are not eligible, so I would just look at that. Given that you can apply, I think you have a good shot at Riverside and Merced! Just to be on the safe side look into some CSUs. Good luck!

Ooooh, I think he may he right

Thanks for the inputs once again. So I can’t apply for UC’s? On my transcript here, it says I have a…:
9-12 Weighted: 3.484
10-12 Weighted: 3.401
10-12 Unweighted: 2.950
10-11 Cal Grant: 3.00

Thanks for your input guys. I really appreciate it. More inputs from other people would be extremely helpful!

So lmk if I got this right so far: UCB and UCLA are quite out of reach. UCD and UCSD are within possible reach, but not quite according to my stats. UCI, UCSB, UCSB are a match, or close to a match. UCM and UCR are most likely?

Just curious, would a 1800-2000 SAT score increase my chances at ANY of the UCs?

Also, do you guys think that I should write about a business that I founded? I’m planning to write about my martial life/virtues as well as what inspired me to start and continue running my business. Any ideas how I should write these essays?

No chance at Berkeley, or LA. SD and Davis high-ish reaches. Irvine low-ish reach.

A SAT I score of 1800-2000 would greatly increase your chances at the lower tier UC’s (Riverside, Merced, and Santa Cruz). If you combine this score with strong essays about your business or martial arts, then Irvine, Davis, and Santa Barbara will be within reach. Just make sure that your GPA meets the requirements for the UC system. And I would also suggest applying to some CSU’s as safeties.

Or UC Santa Cruz, seriously, those guys will take almost anyone

I agree. You should aim lower in UC’s; Santa Cruz, Irvine, Merced, Santa Barbara, and Riverside is a much more realistic list with some reaches and some matches.

@bobtheboy What does high reach/low reach mean? Does it mean that I’m stretching out the capabilities of my stats/resume?

@jyang94 1800-2000 isn’t even enough for consideration for LA/B? Increase by great chances? Can I get a possible percentile?

@SamSaulsbury You’re saying that my chances into Irvine/Davis/SB/SC/I/M are high? Can you give me a rough percentage?

I appreciate the help guys.

@SamSaulsbury Just curious, what type of ECs did your friend who got accepted to cal, have?

Oh I also want to note my GPA for all my previous semesters:
Freshmen S1- 3.85 S2- 3.43
Sophmore S1- 2.71 UW 2.857 W S2- 2.857 UW 3.00 W
Junior S1- 3.166 UW 4.0 W S2- 3.33 UW 4.166 W

Let me know if this changes anything? It shows that I improved from sophmore to junior year?

My friend taught spanish to Mexican immigrants, worked at a teen clinic, was senior class president, asb rally commissioner, and had an environmental internship, so his resume was pretty damn strong. Also, little known fact, UC Berkeley was the home of the “sats don’t matter” philosophy. my brother, and this us an actual number, knows a guy at cal who got a 1300 on his sat. Out of 2400. I wouldn’t say you have the ecs for that, but what the hell, apply to berkeley, I’d say your chances are pretty damn slim, but weirder things have happened

Sorry, English to Mexican immigrants

@SamSaulbury What would say my chances of getting into UCD and UCI would be? UCSB and UCSC?
