Essay: will probably be about my personal information and background.
mostly because i have really interesting story. i grew up in a really well known family of police men, lawyers, and FBI agents. also because i was raised by my grandparents due to the tragic death of my mom. my mom was killed by her own husband shortly after my first birthday. my mom's court case became well known in PR and the US because it was the first carjacking case ending in murder proven by circumstantial evidence. this impacted my life in a way that i feel the only career suited for me is law.

Thanks!

You need to improve your test scores. BTW, how did you get such a low score on the Spanish subject tests when you speak it “fluently”?

Reach for all schools. Need to improve GPA and Test scores.

i took them on sophomore year and i didn’t even try and i mostly answered them randomly. those scores are obviously not the ones i will submit. ill be taking the tests again with actual effort in order to improve my scores

and thank you… i will strive this year in order to raise my GPA and test scores

consider retaking standardized tests to boost your chances

i will thank you

Since you come from an unusual educational background, the colleges and universities you are applying to will not know how smart you are based solely off of your transcript, compared to a traditional transcript of straight-A’s. Your test scores become even more important. Also, make sure your essay stays focused on you not your mother, and that it reveals good aspects about you instead of just an interesting story. Your application is meant to make the college admissions staff like and know you so make sure you talk about yourself.

Also, why are you choosing these colleges? Columbia and Dartmouth, while they’re both Ivy, are incredibly different schools. What draws you too them? Their campuses are polar opposites.

Your score totals are wrong. 500 Math, 600 CR, 630 WR is 1730, not 1980.
And 700 Math, 630 CR, 700 WR is 2030, not 1970.

If you can get in, Penn has an wxcellent criminology program and an option to take law school classes as an undergraduate. Your story just may get you in if recommendations are as strong as you think.

I realized my scores were wrong after I posted it sorry I didn’t proofread
And my essay will be focused on how my background story led me to strive to be better and choose a career in law
And I was interested in both Columbia and Dartmouth because of their political science majors

I don’t understand something. Why didn’t you study for your SAT? You took the test twice and didn’t study either time?

GPA is problematic…also as @mnm111‌ said why didn’t you study for SAT?
Put some safeties.

i honestly saw college so far in my future that i didnt consider studying since i thought i had sooooo much time ahead of me to do so

what about Brown? would i have more chances?

All ivies are reaches for everyone, and it’s higher reaches for you because of that SAT and GPA, which are the two most important factors. What makes you think you would have more chance at Brown?
Oh and as @asukumar‌ said admission officers think it’s weird that you got 680-which is low for Ivies-in Spanish subject test when you speak Spanish as your language.
Also it’s not really good to take Spanish Subject test when you are a native Spanish speaker. Don’t you think that admission officers would think you are trying to do it easy way if you take a “foreign language” test that is actually your own language?

my parents are Puertorrican, i was born in Buffalo NY and moved to PR when i was 14 which was 4 years ago. at first spanish was a difficult for me but i got the hang of it. i started learning spanish when i moved

Oh okay that makes sense.

sorry i meant 12 instead of 14… but now i think im more prepared the spanish subject test but if it helps i can take it on literarure or american history

@anibal‌ - Unless you can raise your test scores, it’s going to be tough for you to get into any of these schools because 1) they will have more academically qualified candidates to chose from, and 2) they will be concerned that you are not strong enough academically to handle the workload. If you are a junior, you have plenty of time to work on this.
