What are my chances, be completely honest.

SAT: 2020

SAT II:
Chem-730
Math II- 760
US- 740

Strong Essay on Aung San Suu Kyi being an inspiration to me

GREAT Rec's: One from a teacher who said I was her favorite student and the best this year. And another from a teacher who is famous for writing very good recs.

EC: Founded a chapter for Oxfam at my school. It’s a non profit international aid organization. We raised over 2 thousand dollars, spread the word, and appeared in the school news paper.
Model UN
VP of a community service club since sophomore year
International Club VP
Assistant curator of the spring art show at our school

Work Experience:
Volunteered for the Smithsonian for a summer
Volunteered at the NIH (still employed)
Volunteered at the National Zoo (still employed)

I have 270+ hours.

I’ve taken 7 AP: got four 5’s and three 4’s.
I’ve always taken honors courses if they were available.
GPA: 3.6
Weighted GPA: 4.21

My major is most likely Political Science so I will be applying to CAS.

you look like a strong applicant. what’s the individual components of the SAT score? (aka the old school score).

Submit your three SAT II scores in place of your SAT 1 and you’ll be a much more competitive applicant. Some people just aren’t good at SAT I, so don’t show your weak side. Send your AP scores too, it certainly can’t hurt.

^I agree. I wish this new policy existed back when I was applying… Your ECs are refreshingly original and your GPA is on par. You have a good shot if you submit the SAT IIs.

SAT sub scores:
Math-710
Reading-640
Writing-670

Is sending in SAT II scores instead of the SAT I really a good idea? I’ve heard that its just a tactic NYU uses to get its accepted percentage lower for prestige reasons.

No, absolutely not. They wouldn’t give you these options if they were going to be biased against it.

Your SAT I score is really average and might put you in LSP. But it’s your decision. Try to raise it in November.

I was thinking about taking it in november. Maybe I can study up for CR and get a high super score. I have a 1350 with just Math and Reading which is above avarage so I guess improving CR would help alot.

thanks!

i think you have a good chance.
retake the SAT and just send all your scores.

When is a good time to send in my application for RD?

whenever. they don’t review them until the application period is closed.

The overall average SAT I score was just under 1400 out of 1600 for NYU’s Class of 2013. I had a 1380 myself.

[Washington Square News - SAT I no longer required for NYU applicants](http://www.nyunews.com/news/university/sat-i-no-longer-required-for-nyu-applicants-1.1725099)

"We believe that the current level of our SAT scores — just under 1400 [the critical reading and math sections combined] this year for students admitted to our four-year programs — may be discouraging applicants with lower scores from applying,” the statement reads. “This may include students who might have some remarkable talents that we would welcome, but whose SAT score is not necessarily indicative of their ability to be successful at NYU.”

Notice she said four-year programs, which excludes LSP. The SAT I average for LSP is roughly 1300.

^ Thanks SO much!

I will definitely consider just sending in my 3 SAT IIs because it seems like I fit into the category of “talented, just not at the SAT.”

I try. haha no problem.

I am sorry to have to bring this thread back but there is some stuff I need to update.

SAT: 2020 (retaking in November, I think I can pull off a 2100+)
Math- 710
CR- 640
Writing- 670 (10 essay)

SAT II:
Chem-730
Math II- 760
US- 740

I am taking the ACT in October.

I have 3 strong Essay’s to choose from. My English teacher has picked her favorite but I am not sure if that is what I want to choose. All are very personal and written well.

GREAT Rec’s: One from a teacher who said I was her favorite student and the best last year. And another from a teacher who is famous for writing very good recs. I was an excellent student in both classes. I had the prior for Honors Modern World History and Sociology and now have her for Comparative Religions and will have her again for Anthropology. The later was my Pre-Calculus with Analysis teacher.

EC:

Volunteered at the National Zoo

I have 270+ community service hours.

I’ve taken 7 AP tests: got four 5’s and three 4’s. Should I send in these scores?

Senior year schedule:
AP Calculus ab
AP English Lit.
AP European History
AP Environmental Science
AP Studio Art
Comparative Religions
Hon. Physics

I’ve always taken honors courses if they were available.
GPA: 3.6
Weighted GPA: 4.21 might be 4.3

My major will be Political Science/International Relations- perhaps a double major.
I am applying to CAS but I am unsure if I should apply ED. I am 100% sure that NYU is where I want to go if I am offered admission. How much will ED increase my chances?

I disagree with bimachris. I say send in both your SAT I and SAT II scores. 2020 is worth sending.

You can’t apply to International Relations off the bat. You can only apply once you’re in the POLITICS (not political science) program here.

I did not know that, thanks!

Sorry again for another ‘chance’ thread, I was just wondering what my chances would be with the updated info.

Bump- I just want to know what my chances look like with the updated info on post # 14
