I’m a senior and love Colgate 3 of my siblings went there and I want to go. I’m planning on early decision and have a 3.7 gpa I took 5 aps over my high school career and got a 1390 on sat. I’ve been apart of student newspaper and this year I run it I have worked two jobs as lifeguard and I play 3 varsity sports. However I will need financial aid, so what are my chances at Colgate?
Your sat is low, gpa is fine, but Colgate is a pretty stingy school. I think you would have a good shot if you applied ED but if you do you won’t get any financial aid most likely. I don’t know if it’s worth it or not for your family.
I just have to chime in for a couple of reasons:
Firstly, no one outside the admissions office of any college can responsibly discuss “chances” with the slightest degree of authority. I mean really… what would such a person know about your high school’s reputation, the quality of your essays and recommendations and other factors in terms of any college’s admissions criteria and execution.
Secondly, what in the world does “stingy” mean in terms of your financial need- as documented in your personal circumstances and the college’s allocations? Answer: nothing.
And then there is the “if it’s worth it” stuff. If it’s in your interest to succeed with the Colgate admissions application process then you would be negligent if you did not apply on a best efforts basis. Simple as that.
I would do my own homework if I were you, make the most of the application process, ask admissions officers about the ins and outs of ED vs RD, and trust in myself. The baseline? A starting point is what the college’s website shows for its admitted student profiles and financial aid simulations that are available to you online.
Good luck with your college applications!
Thank you I appreciate that a lot @markham
I agree with @markham about these chance me threads. But I do think having 3 siblings who attended Colgate helps you a bit, as they are a school that promotes community and based on your stats you appear to be a viable candidate
