What are my chances for any school?? (Suggestions, please!)

<p>I would love to hear everyone's suggestions!! :)
(this is my junior year)</p>

<p>white female - connecticut public school (no, its not a rich school, it's rather bad - we havn't had a National Merit Finalist in 4 years)
Current GPA = 102.6 (it isn't on a 4.0 scale)
Rank = 3</p>

<p>Last year's PSAT was 1430, I'm hoping to raise that into the 1500s
SATII Chem: 800
AP Chem: 5</p>

<p>President of MUN
JETS ("team leader")
Band
Jazz Band
National Honor Society
Music Honor Society</p>

<p>Regional jazz band
All state band or jazz band (hopefully...)
ASBDA Jazz Band
"Work experience" for past 2 years - 7hrs/week
Some community service (around 40 hours)</p>

<p>This year I'm taking :
- AP USHistory, ap Calc AB, ap Bio, ap English
- Band, honors spanish
Next year: AP Calc BC, ap Physics, ap English, ap Spanish (and honors civics and band)</p>

<p>Will take SATII in math IIC and maybe USHistory?</p>

<p>I'm interested in chemical or biomedical engineering and then a law degree - my best grades are in math (and science, to a degree, although my science teacher this year is a dick). </p>

<p>Suggestions please on which schools would be good for me - I prefer an urban area, but don't let that limit you! Also, does anyone think that I would have an advantage at MIT since I'm a female? Are the top schools a possibility?</p>

<p>I would say schools such as Northwestern, UC-Berkley, UNC- Chapel Hill are schools that you have a good chance of being admitted to, MIT will be a reach and this is why: (not to be mean)</p>

<p>1500+ SAT, I would apply (800 Math, 700+ verbal)
Lack of research that has been conducted/published</p>

<p>(not as important)
Lack of National Awards
Not many EC's
Not much community involvement</p>

<p>and don't worry about school ranking, most schools never look at that, your SAT/ACT score will show how much you know :)</p>

<p>I forgot to add math team...I am planning on a 800 math/ 700+ for the SATs. Is research really important?</p>

<p>only at CalTech and MIT is it really looked at that I know of, though it is not as important as standardized test scores, and secondary school reports. It will probably give you on average a 10% additional chance of being accepted. So if you think your chances are 10%, it may boost it all the way to 20%!</p>
