Hi, I have applied for undergraduate admission for computer science at the above mentioned colleges from India. Can someone please give me an idea about my chances at the following universities:
UT Austin
Georgia Tech
Brown
Rice
Cornell
UMich
ACT composite : 33
Breakup : (E-34, M-35, R-31, S-30)
School Grades : ~75-80% always (approx. school average)
ECs :
- Founder of NGO, recieved a letter of appreciation from Govt.
- President, Secretary at various clubs
- Completed project with professor from renowned university, recieved letter of appreciation
- Got ranks under 100 internationally for various olympiads
- Member of team that came runners-up at international design competition
All very high reaches. You are an international, and your grades and ACT are unfortunately just not competitive for internationals. It’s a sad reality that you have some of the toughest competition in the world. There are only a select few spots available for people like that. Your grades are rather low (I know CBSE in India is much harder than grades here), but I understand the Indian education system is a lot more tough on grades than in America. You’re qualified to get into any of these schools, don’t get me wrong, but you’re going up against a lot.
Hmm true, but I believe my scores are around average for students admitted to GTech, UT Austin, and UMich. I got into Purdue engg, and got waitlisted at UIUC, both of which are quite selective. So, I do fancy my chances here. But, yeah, the reality is I have a weak chance for the likes of Brown and Cornell.
If you were a US student, then you may have a good chance at umich, but yes international admission is more competitive.
At umich, your choice of specific major has no bearing on your chances for admission. Every freshman in CoE comes in undeclared, and you will only be able to declare by satisfactorily completing certain prerequisites while in college.
What do you reckon is the weakness in my profile? Is there any way I can improve it?
