Applying ED

Extra info: Brother goes to Harvard. Does that make a difference?

excellent candidate lol
should apply to Harvard as well

I have to say I’m very impressed with your EC’s. You’re fundraising work as well as leadership is definitely eye catching. I have to say it looks shining except your GPA, specifically the UW. But I’m assuming you’re taking a very rigorous course load, so it no doubt will be weighted well. As far as your chances, I’d love to be able to see you in Hanover. But really admissions is a crap shoot. I’d say you’re definitely not out though, and you’re in with the group of highly qualified applicants to be seriously considered. ED should work in your favor.

P.S. Brother going to Harvard doesn’t affect anything, I’m not ever sure it would for Harvard itself.

SATIIs are now as follows:

Math IIC - 780
Bio M - 750
US - 720

Can anyone else give their insight?

You are a strong candidate. APPLY!

You are a strong applicant, but again admissions to top schools is a toss-up, even ED. For Dartmouth specifically ED is just as hard as regular decision due to the fact that they admit all recruited athletes ED, meaning roughly 200 of the 400 spots have already been accounted for. That means 200 spots for 1300 kids (400 for 1500 overall - 200 for 200 athletes = 200 for 1300) meaning an acceptance rate of roughly 15% as opposed to roughly 10% regular.

I applied early as a salutatorian with a 2240 (800M 730CR 710W) and my schools valedictorian applied early (2200) and we were both deferred then rejected. And we both were sports captains, Eagle scouts, presidents of political action and diversity clubs, numerous awards, outstanding GPAs, had taken college classes, etc.

However, conversely, ik a few kids that got in with subpar stats and extras, so really it is a crapshoot. The fact that your brother goes to Harvard actually does help because it shows that you come from a smart, motivated family and that most likely you too will be a smart, motivated student as your brother is. At least that is how I would construe it, though I’m not an admissions officer.

My D will be applying ED at Dartmouth. We will be scheduling an on-site interview sometime in September. Does anyone have any insight on the interview?
thx

gina chrys - wrong thread for that kind of question. Regardless, I have no good answer to that :)

Anyone else willing to chance? I am retaking the USH SATII in October and expect my GPA to go up .1 UW and W first semester.

Bump (10 char)

I will chance back!

I give up, should have posted this in a more appropriate thread. Will try again!
